October 28, 2022 News and Notes

  • It's FINAL.  Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are DONE.  They have announced their divorce.
  • Now, you have to wonder:  Does this mean Brady actually plays NEXT YEAR?  And perhaps even the year after THAT?
  • Even though it's becoming apparent that even the Bucs don't want him anymore...  I saw at least three meaningful plays in last night's loss which indicate to me that the Bucs are throwing games now to get rid of Tom Brady.
  • And then, on the flip side of the argument -- does anyone now get the power of being Foobaw Man?
  • And now there's word that if Tom Brady does not make the Super Bowl, FOX wants him in the booth for THAT game.
  • It appears we are headed for another NBA work stoppage.  In negotiations racing toward a December 15 opt-out date for the current CBA, the NBA, realizing teams are willing to pay a significant luxury tax to exceed the salary cap, now wants to make that cap absolute and hard.  The NBPA, obviously, is balking.
  • Want an example why?  The Warriors, Clippers, and Nets are going to pay over $400,000,000 to exceed the salary cap.
  • There is an increasing demand on the part of NFL players and coaches that all NFL games be played on grass fields, due to injury problems similar to those suffered at the old Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.
  • And I see it's not just the NSAC.  After comments that Anderson Silva had been knocked out at least twice by his sparring partners, Silva (who has a history of being knocked out in MMA) was cleared by the Arizona Boxing and MMA Commission for the latest Jake Paul scam-fest.  Silva is also 47 years old.
  • World Series Prediction:  I believe the Astros will sweep the Phillies and complete the perfect post-season, as America seethes and ratings tank.
  • It appears the AEW All Out investigation is over -- latest word is that CM Punk will be bought out of his contract (and possibly return to WWE!!!) and that The Elite are about to return, and, apparently, Kenny and the Bucks were at AEW Dynamite this week.
  • A controversial rock and roll legend has died.  Jerry Lee Lewis has passed away at 87.
  • And that means we have hit a dark day in the history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Every member of the inaugural class has now passed away.
  1. Chuck Berry (2017)
  2. James Brown (2006)
  3. Ray Charles (2004)
  4. Sam Cooke (1964 at the age of 33)
  5. Fats Domino (2017)
  6. The Everly Brothers (Don in 2021, Phil in 2014)
  7. Buddy Holly (The Day The Music Died, he was only 22 when the plane crashed in 1959)
  8. Little Richard (2020)
  9. Elvis Presley (1977, at age 42)
  10. Jerry Lee Lewis (2022)
...  all gone.
  • The Beatles didn't even get in until 1988, the third induction class!!  However, all four Beatles are in both as the group and as solo acts.  (Lennon in 1994, McCartney in 1999, Harrison in 2004, Starr in 2015)
  • Smokey Robinson, at 82, is now the only living member of either of the first two induction classes.
