October 26, 2022 News and Notes

  • Rob Manfred wins again!!!  MAGABall has another victory today, as Keith Olbermann and other media outlets have reported that, for the first time since 1950, the World Series will have two rosters full of players other than African-Americans.  No Blacks in the playing rosters of the World Series.  Olbermann does note that the manager and one of the coaches of the Asterisks are both Black, however.
  • Jackie Robinson integrated MLB in 1947, meaning that, at the most (and it's probably fewer than this!), this represents only the fifth time that the World Series has been non-Black since the integration of the game.
  • Last night, Phil Kessel had one Hell of a night:  He not only scored his 400th NHL goal, but he broke the Iron Man record in the NHL, playing in his 990th consecutive game.
  • Barcelona will not make it out of the group stage of the 2022-23 UEFA Champions' League. The sanctions are working.
  • Atletico Madrid is as well.  Needing three points to have a chance in the final match, they were drawn, but given a VAR penalty after full time -- which was missed.
  • The only thing probably keeping Jumbo Fisher at Texas A&M:  $86,000,000 buyout if he is fired.
  • It appears as if A&M isn't the only SEC team to have problems with recruiting.  Auburn's 2021 class has turned into such a bust that the coach is basically demanding all the players on the team who want redshirts will be refused.  They will have two options:  Quit or enter the transfer portal.
  • Sports Illustrated reports half of the 18 signees for 2021 are not with the program a season and a half later.  Only two have apparently not found new schools.  It's time to throw players off the team you don't need.  Period.
  • Maybe it's also becoming apparent that losing teams are shedding recruits???
  • There is serious talk that Aaron Judge is leaving the Yankees in free agency -- and early talk the Dodgers might be the front-runners has the Giants basically saying they'll pay whatever it takes!
