- Two biggest news items of the week in the score report. The first is, led by the Lions-Seahawks game, it was, by almost a touchdown, the highest-scoring week of the year so far: 49.1875 points per game.
- The Lions-Seahawks game total of 93 is the highest in the NFL (I think, damn Pro Football Reference for doing this as a subscription thing now -- assholes...) since Tampa beat the Rams in Los Angeles 55-40 in 2019. (The Rams-Chiefs debacle was in 2018
- It ended up tied for 18th all time for combined scoring total in the history of the league. That I CAN confirm through Twitter.
- Season average for the first 64 games of the year was elevated to 43.86.
- Last year: Week: 46.56. Season: 47.14. Two years ago, both were over 52.
- Home teams: 8-7 for the week, 33-29-1 for the year. Last year: 8-8 for 31-32.
- The Over: 8-8 for 26-37-1. Last year: 6-10 for 26-38-1.
- Against the Spread: 7-8-1 for 25-35-3. Last year: 8-8 for 26-38.
- Straight Up: 10-6 for 36-26-1. Last year: 10-6 for 37-27.
- Team with more penalties was 4-11 this week, 25-33-1 for the year. Last year: 6-8 for 26-29.
- Penalties were way up this week until the Monday Night total of five. 194 for the week even so, 12.2 per game. 762 for the season: 11.9 per game. (Last year: 195 for 810 -- down almost a full penalty a game.)
- Four Cliffhangers this week, 16 for the year. Last year: 5 for 16.
- Nine games finished within one score, 38 for the year. Last year: 8 for 30.
- The other big stat of the week: Only the 41-31 win by the Chiefs over the Tom Bradys was noncompetitive -- no margin within eight at any point in the 4th quarter. 14 such games for the season so far. Last year: 6 for 23.
- And four Last Chance Misses for 23 for the year. Last year: 5 for 16.
Interesting NFL ratings stat from Sports Media Watch:
- Of the nine highest ratings 18-34 for the NFL as of the end of 22 windows, three are held by Amazon's Thursday Night package.
