Already 2-0 San Diego as we enter the third inning, and the LOLMets meter is about at 4.8 in Flushing right now.
But a key moment with Chris Bassitt on the mound here.
The electronic pitch communication system was not working for him on the mound in a key situation with first and second and two out in the second inning.
He loads the bases, and a seeing-eye single gives the Padres a 2-0 lead, with the winner tonight going to Los Angeles.
I know a lot of people are going to correctly criticize Bassitt, but the fact is there was help here. He was one pitch from getting out of the inning without damage a couple of times, and the fact that he can't rely on MLB's technology (while the Mets go meekly in the first two innings) cannot be underestimated as a possible Rob Manfred Fuck You to get the Padres to LA in a five-game series.
