2022 NFL Week 5 Score Report

And ANOTHER Roughing The Passer controversy in the Monday nighter.  Oh yes, the Clay Matthews "full body weight on the quarterback" rule -- the one which as much retired Matthews from the NFL as Calvin Johnson went for the Catch Rule fiascos he always seemed in the middle of.

That didn't save Las Vegas, who is now 1-4, and probably more than manipulated into doing so.

So you go for two down 30-29 4 minutes to go...  Run it straight up the gut and get nowhere close!!!

They do get the ball back, as the Chiefs somehow mysteriously "forgot" how to get a sure 8 yards like they did on first down the last two series of that final offensive drive.

But after a replay reversal on third down, Las Vegas decides to chuck it deep downfield and get nothing on 4th and 1 with 47 seconds to go, and the throw is complete.  Not the pass, mind you, but the throwing of the game to Mahomes and the Chiefs.

And Davante Adams, that should be a suspension for next week.  You apologized, but that was a hard shove of that credentialed cameraperson after the game!

Anyway, to the numbers for Week 5:
  • 42.875 points per game this week.  50 points per game last year Week 6.
  • Season average:  43.66 points per game.  Last year:  47.725.  Two years ago:  51.42.
  • Home teams were 8-7 for 41-36-1 for the year.  Last year:  7-8 for 38-40.
  • Over is 7-9 for the week, 33-46-1 for the year.  Last year:  11-5 for 37-43.
  • One game kicked a pick, and the numbers for the week, as a result, were mirror images.  5-10 against the number, 10-5 straight up.  Last year:  9-7 ATS, 12-4 SU
  • Season:  30-45-3 against the number, 46-31-1 straight up.  Last year:  35-45 ATS, 49-31 SU.
  • Team with more penalties was 6-9 for 30-43-1.  Last year:  9-6 for 35-35.
  • 201 penalties this week, the most since 204 for Week 1.  12.6 per game.  Last year:  196 (12.25)
  • 963 penalties for the year, down from 1,006 last year.
  • Three Cliffhangers.  19 for the year.  Last year:  5 for 21.
  • 11 of the 16 games went within one score.  49 of the first 80, over 60%, are within one score at the end.  Last year:  9 for 39.
  • 5 non-competitive games for 19 for the season.  Last year:  3 for 26.
  • The big number of the week:  HALF of the 16 games had a Last Chance Miss -- a feasible chance to win in the last two minutes or overtime that went awry.  Meaning, of the 80 games played, 31 had a Last Chance Miss.  Last year:  5 for 21.  Two years ago had 30 through five weeks.
And the byes begin next week.  1-4 Detroit, 1-4 Las Vegas, 1-3-1 Houston, and 3-2 Tennessee.  No one that will be missed.
