October 15, 2022 News and Notes

  • Major League Baseball is within nine innings, now, of losing it's regular season, for all intent and purpose.  The Braves just lost to the Phillies, three games to one, and the Dodgers are one game from elimination themselves.  If the Dodgers are eliminated, it's the 5 vs. the 6 in the NLCS.
  • The victory included the first-ever postseason inside-the-park home run by a catcher!
  • But even as a larger consideration:  With Game 3 in the ALDS with Seattle and Houston going on (0-0 middle 5 as I start this running daily) (and it's increasingly looking like Manfred's middle finger is going to everybody, with Houston winning the World Series easily!), after a 3-6 Wild Card round (NYM 1-2, CLE 2-0, STL and TOR 0-2), the higher seeds in the DS are 5-6 (HOU 2-0, ATL 1-3, NYY 1-1, LAD 1-2).
  • At what point is a team going to publicly come out and say "Do we wanna win a division title, or do we wanna win a World Series?"  I could easily see teams tanking a good portion of the Dog Days of Summer to have to play meaningful baseball in September.  With the exception of the Asterisks (and they've needed two walk-offs, or they'd be down 0-2 as well!!), it appears that actually being a good team is a BAD THING.  You want to be playing meaningful baseball in September.
  • The Dodgers haven't played a meaningful game, until probably tonight, much of this season.  The Mets and Braves, maybe for the division, but...  The Yankees lapped the AL East until they fell flat.  Only the Asterisks, and that's with the above caveat, seem to have carried over...  And we all know Manfred would have them win another title to flip us all off.
  • Of course, you could be college football right now.
Here are the last four results for the University of Oklahoma:
  • Kansas State 41 at Oklahoma 31.
  • TCU at home 55 Oklahoma 24.
  • Then the Red River Massacre:  Texas 49 Oklahoma 0.
  • So what happens this week?  #19 Kansas comes to Norman and LOSES 52-42!
Why are we propping up this antiquated system?
  • Dikembe Mutumbo has a brain tumor and has started treatments.
  • It appears that the Tua Tagovailoa Death Watch can begin in Week 7.  HOLY FUCK!!!
  • Mason Greenwood of Manchester United has now been charged with attempted rape and two other charges.  He has been suspended by the team since this came out at the end of January.
  • The concussion problems with Kurt Busch probably WILL Dale Jr. his career.  He announced he will not be running a full schedule in NASCAR next season.
  • In another sign we are DONE as a society:  A 25-year-old Catholic school teacher in East Chicago, IN was arrested recently...  for having a "kill list" of students and staff at the school!  Aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
  • Of course, depending on the situation regarding students, perhaps he was misplaced and should've been in a more conservative area.  I could see "LD" students and other undesirables be pushed toward elimination by communities in the next few years.
  • A BetMGM bettor is about as happy as the University of Tennessee with their upending of #1 Alabama 52-49 today.  He got +240 on the outright outcome...  AND PUT DOWN A HUNDRED GRAND ON IT!!!!
  • Speaking of, Syracuse, UConn, Kansas, and Duke have all already won the Over on their season win totals.  Syracuse is bowl-eligible and undefeated.  Duke is 4-2, Kansas is 5-2, Connecticut, however, is 3-5.

    1. ONE THOUSAND PERCENT SERIOUS.

As I spoke with my increasingly-frustrated baseball-fan anonymous friend (who also believes the Dodgers may need to jettison a third of the roster and the GM, before they fire Roberts): Facts are facts.

If the Yankees lose Game 5 Monday night, you will have lost five of the six best teams in baseball over the course of the regular season.

It is not going to be unakin to the complete joke the last week of every NFL season has become -- except, in this case, it's going to be the reverse: You are going to be REQUIRED to have your team on the razor's edge (which see how well San Diego played to get out of that morass and into the Wild Card round in the first place in September!) if you want to have any aspirations of winning a World Series.
