November 10, 2022 News and Notes -- Non-Political

  • Never let it be said that Jeopardy! isn't intelligent.
  • Facing the election coverage in the middle of their Tournament of Champions, Michael Davies and the staff did something unique:  As you well know, the three big winners from the last two years (Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider, and Mattea Roach) were all given byes into the semifinals.
  • Since the show sees some form of advantage of live gameplay with the buzzers and timing and all of that, and because most markets pre-empted Jeopardy! for the election, the show did a complete exhibition match -- counting for nothing except for live practice -- with the three byed into the semifinals on Tuesday.
  • I was going to reveal the winner, but you can find out for yourself.  The official YouTube account posted the match here.  Do not eat or drink during this match if you value your keyboards or screens.
  • And Jennings noted:  The airdate of the exhibition match was precisely two years after the passing of Trebek.  Alex was given a tribute category in the first round.
  • Schneider won her semifinal last night and will be in the finals, starting Monday.  The three finalists will continue to play, similar to The Greatest of All Time format, single games until someone wins three.
  • Amodio plays tonight, Roach tomorrow.
  • Well, here we go!  The District Attorney for the District of Columbia, for obstruction of justice and the investigations into the toxic workplace environment of the Washington Commanders, basically sued everybody -- INCLUDING the NFL and Goodell!!  Four words, assholes:  Discovery is a bitch.
  • Kate Upton wants more money.  Justin Verlander is a free agent.
  • The delay in Monday's Powerball drawing was Minnesota being forced to reverify an entire day's sales, taking 5 1/2 hours, to ensure that those tickets would be accounted for when the numbers were drawn.
