November 1, 2022 News and Notes

  • Don't know if this has to do with the Kyrie Irving situation or just that the team is 2-5 to start -- Steve Nash is out as the coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
  • They'll try Game 3 again tonight in Philadelphia -- weather put Game 3 out to pasture last night.  That means *gasp* they'll have to compete with Thursday Night Football for Game 5.
  • Adam Zimmer, son of Mike, died suddenly this morning at age 38 -- he was an analyst for the Bengals.  My guess:  Long COVID.
  • First CFP Rankings out tonight.
  • Not enough people going to Qatar for the World Cup this month, I see...  So the Qatari government is going to pay to fill the stands for PR purposes.  Welcome to the future of sports, as things migrate to the Middle East...
  • Sounds like we have another high school which needs to have no sports.  Duncanville, TX, one of the best boys' basketball teams last season, forfeited it's 2022 Texas state championship due to an ineligible player.
  • And if that wasn't enough, the girls' team has been banned from the playoffs and it's coach banned a year for recruiting violations.
  • The two California sports-betting propositions may now fail by at least a 2-to-1 margin.  I wonder how much of this is opposition to all sports betting -- and how much of this may actually be opposition to all gambling in the state.
  • Elon Musk has stated the $20/month Twitter verification fee will not take place at that level. Instead, it'll be $8/month.
  • The former CFO of Twitter actually said the price point should be at least $49/month, and those refusing to pay never should've gotten the blue checkmark in the first place!
