November 5, 2022 News and Notes
- Gary Bettman has banned for life -- and this one's probably going to stick -- 20 year old Mitchell Miller. A draftee of the Coyotes, the Bruins tried to pick him up before Bettman said no.
- Miller's offense? Assaulting and bullying a Black developmentally disabled student six years ago.
- I have three problems with this story: 1) Why is Miller and anyone else involved not literally in juvie until they're 25 or whatever? (Charging him as an adult at 14 might well be a stretch, without it being a murder.)
- 2) How many more people would be banned from their line of work if everything came out similarly?
- and 3) Yes, I WILL ask the question: How much of this life ban is because the other kid was Black?
- The police in San Antonio are finally investigating the Primo incident (though I wonder how in Hell he wasn't, at the least, arrested FIRST, given the allegations and the like... Oh, that's right -- he was IMPORTANT. He was a BASKETBALL PLAYER!)...
- Nike and Idiot Irving are splitting ways.
- Even the old brass at Twitter now believe they grew the company too fast. Right-wing Twitter Czar Elon Musk fired half the company last Friday. Truth Social II, here we come...
- Ben Gordon (formerly of the NBA) has been arrested for the second time in a month. Assault on his young son at LaGuardia a month ago. Assault on two men, including a McDonald's guard, now. For the third time in this Daily: Why is he not no-bail in jail at this point? Oh, that's right -- he's IMPORTANT!!
- Spencer Dinwiddie is filing a complaint with the NBA after not only believing he wrongly got a T in last night's game, but the ref who whistled it called him a "bitch ass motherfucker". I get the feeling that happens a LOT more than anyone is ever going to be willing to admit.
- The WWE latest Saudi blood money event took place today -- another Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia...
- Brock Lesnar got a pinfall win over Bobby Lashley, but Bobby "getting his heat back afterward" indicates we're probably seeing that match again in Los Angeles next year.
- Damage CTRL: Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai won back the women's tag team championships over Asuka and Alexa Bliss. Interference by Nikki Cross had to do with the outcome.
- Drew McIntyre defeated Karrion Kross inside a steel cage.
- The Judgement Day defeated the OC. This was one of the two matches Karl Anderson was booked in today, thousands of miles apart, which has created a rift between the IWGP and Anderson. I forget, without looking it up, if Anderson is US Champ or NEVER Openweight Champ right now.
- Braun Strowman defeated Omos.
- The Usos continued The Bloodline's reign of terror on WWE by retaining the Tag Team Championships over The Brawling Brutes.
- Bianca Belair won a Last Woman Standing match (win is knockout count of 10) over Damage CTRL leader Bayley to retain the Raw Women's belt.
- And, as completely expected, Roman Reigns is still the ultimate champion. With no challengers credible on the horizon, the Saudi bloodlords wanted... LOGAN PAUL to be the challenger.
- Aaron Carter, one of the Backstreet Boys, found deceased in his house. 34. Given history, probably either suicide or overdose -- has had issues with drugs and mental health.
- LA Football Club (not the Galaxy, the other LA MLS Club) has won the MLS Cup for the season, the championship over Philadelphia in penalties after a 3-3 draw.
- Undefeated Flightline won his sixth race in six starts -- the Breeder's Cup Classic. The 4 year old won his first five races by an average of 13 lengths. The Classic, he won by 8 1/2, a margin unheard of in the race.
