September 24, 2022 News and Notes

  • The NLCS is beginning to look like Cardinals or Barfs, isn't it?  Look, I get the Dodgers have very minimal to play for, but you have to at least TRY.
  • It was so bad, the 11-0 win by the Cardinals in Dodger Stadium last night:  Albert Pujols hit TWO home runs last night and got #700!!!
  • And if that wasn't two of the most served-up pitches I've seen in such a situation since the Derek Jeter final at-bat...   699 was straight down the middle, 700 was lower and more inside, but still quite in the sweet spot.
  • Then get Bickford and Heaney as far away from the playoff rotation as you can.  My anonymous baseball-historian friend notes that the two have absolutely been giving up a ton of those cheapies all season!!
  • I guess you wanna do it now, but there's a problem:  Pujols provides a perfect angle to fuck you square in the ass without lube next month, Dodgers...  Really.  And you're playing right into the hands at this point. The 1 seed faces the 3-4 winner in the new setup, and, right now, that's Cards-Barfs.
  • The Mets won to keep the Dodger Magic Number for the NL home field at 3.  The Barfs lost to place them at the precipice at 1.  Mets are now 2 1/2 up on the Barfs in the NL East.
  • The Asterisks lost to push the best in baseball Magic Number to 6.
  • Shakur Stevenson was stripped of the 130 pound belts for failing weight.  He then won his fight with Robson Conceiano.  He appears to be done at 130 and will go to 135.  Money.  There's no money left for him, a light hitting 19-0 with only 9 knockouts, in the division.
  • Gee, Commissioner Manfred, speaking of bullshit...  Aaron Boone got tossed for the 9th time this year (and 3rd this month), arguing balls and strikes (and, according to umpire-school website Close Call Sports, they've ALL been balls/strikes) in Friday's game at Yankee Stadium after Gerrit Cole thought he got Strike 3 to get out of the inning, just before a 3-run Boston jack tied the game.  Cole got tossed as well.  Suspension?  Any week now???
  • For the record, David Bell of the Reds was tossed nine times by the trade deadline in 2019, and, as a result, had his suspension for his involvement in the Reds-Pirates tirade escalated to six games as a result.
