Some further comments I wanted to make on this week:
First: I reiterate the "warning shot/shot across the bow" discussion I've made a couple times this week. Now seeing how obviously the league and several Chiefs players were in on rigging and throwing the game to Indianapolis this week, I have to think the Chiefs, if they aren't already being removed from consideration, definitely got their last warning and another major embarrassing transgression means the league is going somewhere else.
The Bucs?? That definitely was costly, more for January purposes than anything else, but we know the Bucs can go to Green Bay and get it done if necessary. But that has to be a message.
The Bills would've been one you would've seen at the beginning of the year, that's for sure. And I'd be somewhat surprised if there isn't more...
... but it's clear that, if there's a single player or the like that is the impetus of a big push to start the year, it's Tua Tagovailoa. (I cannot spell that guy's name right for the LIFE OF ME -- without looking it up!)
Some people forget the kind of synergy which goes on between the NFL and college football, especially as it relates to rigging and the like of games and the pushing of players. Cam Newton had the same kind of thing going on in Carolina after his rigged championship and Heisman. Take away that push, and he's not even an NFL quarterback.
But it's clear that the name the league is at least getting on the back of to start the year, it's Tua.
There's one other thing you need to keep an eye on, as it relates to the NFL after three weeks.
The average score per game is down over five points a game this year over last, and almost NINE from two years ago.
I'd say part of it is the "The NFL is going to entertain the country in a 'At least we still have blitz.' situation vis-a-vis COVID."
But there's another angle I'd like to add. Remember that 2018 Monday Night Football game with the Rams, the Chiefs, and the 100+ points? You know, the unacceptable conditions in Mexico, the California wildfires (and NFL fundraising for same during the MNF game), and the aftermath of a major shooting in Thousand Oaks, CA the week prior?
Can you tell me any person watching or following that game that didn't KNOW the game was just going off the charts as a manipulated mess?
My point: What kind of game is easier to manipulate the outcome for if the NFL wants to rig an outcome and have it NOT be that obvious to the houseplant-level IQs of most NFL fans? 11-10/14-12/20-17 or the like, or 55-52 or some construction like that, whatever it was?
Exactly.
Remember, there have been 12 Cliffhangers (winning score or tying score in the last two minutes or OT) and 19 Last Chance Misses (a feasible chance for tying or winning score in the last two minutes or overtime). Nine games have had both, meaning 22 of the first 48 games of the year have been either decided in the last two or overtime on offense or defense!
What other better way to keep ass in seat than "The Witching Hour -- where wins turn to losses and losses turn to wins" (reg tm NFL RedZone)?
And remember this thought from pro wrestling: You have to make it believable. Else, good luck getting people to buy in further.
