September 18, 2022 News and Notes

  • High drama and criminality in French women's soccer.  Aminata Diallo has been arrested and held without bond for conspiring with four men for one attack on a player on the team she was released from at the end of last season (Paris-St. Germain's women's side), and, even while under investigation, but released for the first attack, planning a second!  Why does it seem that we are getting more and more "beyond the pale" motifs here?
  • The reality that most college football teams do not measure up hit BYU (three-touchdown loss to Oregon) and Houston (fight between two wide receivers on the sideline during a loss to Kansas) yesterday.
  • Georgia 48-7 at South Carolina.  Alabama disposed of Louisiana-Monroe 63-7.  Ohio State hung SEVENTY-SEVEN on Toledo.  Michigan canned UConn 59-0.  Penn State 41-12 at Auburn.  Clemson by four touchdowns over Louisiana Tech.  Tennessee and Oklahoma State hung 60s on FBS-II or FCS opponents.  And Deadspin is blatantly calling for a Black coach at Nebraska, after Oklahoma spotted them the first 7 and then won 49-14.  Just fold the damn program at Nebraska -- they've NEVER COMING BACK, especially with that racist claptrap being posed as a solution!
  • With BYU's loss, it is possible Marshall will be the only non-Power 5 team in the AP poll and no non-Power 5 teams in the Coaches Poll, three weeks in.  If that holds to the end of the season, then the CFP Committee basically names a Group of 5 "National Champion" for the slough-off.
  • Is this year "Save the Pac-12" Year for the CFP?  Of the 14 ESPN analysts projecting the Top 4 way too early, 12 are picking a Pac-12 team for #4.  10 USC, 1 Oregon, 1 Washington.
  • The University of Oregon has apologized for chants directed against BYU and their Mormon fans.
  • A joyful commemoration of the late Queen at this weekend's returning Premier League matches:  For the 70 years in reign, the 70th minute of every match will feature a full minute of applause.
  • The world says goodbye tomorrow -- the funeral is tomorrow, early morning in the US.
  • The Las Vegas Aces won the WNBA Championship today, three games to one over the Connecticut Sun.  It's the first pro championship of any kind for Las Vegas.
  • Speaking of the two away (from 700) for Albert Pujols, Aaron Judge hit two home runs on Sunday for the Yankees to get two away from Roger Maris' AL (and drug-free/legitimate) record.
  • Herm Edwards has been fired at Arizona State.  Not only does the team suck again, but the university is under investigation for illegal recruiting practices under the COVID protocols.
  • Nebraska's defensive coordinator has joined Scott Frost on the unemployment line after Oklahoma made their defense their bitch.
