2021 NFL Week 12 Score Report -- and another to add to the list...

If that wasn't the ugliest Monday Night Football game in years (excusing weather-related debacles), I'm taking candidates.

And for the second time this season, a team loses their kicker in a freak accident, forcing otherwise-idiotic strategy.  During the Seattle conversion-return, the Washington kicker pulls a hammy and is out.

But, seriously, you couldn't have let the punter try to kick a 20-21 yard field goal from the 3 after burning all the Seattle time outs??

(I had a rant, not unakin to the "You can't be THAT STUPID!" motif I've been throwing around -- but it turns out the Washington kicker actually got hurt, and the punter hasn't kicked a place kick since college -- FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!!!)

So, what happens?  Long replay review at the goal line goes Seattle.  They drive 97-99 yards in two minutes, but miss the tying conversion.

Then, if not for an illegal formation, Seattle would've gotten the onside kick.

So, I guess the moral of the story is:  The NFL is trying to manufacture these great finishes because a large number of the teams in the league are AB-JECT SHIT.  The quality of play is about as low as I've ever seen it.

I want the name of one GOOD NFL team.  Maybe New England???

sigh  Let's get on with it:

  • If you want a great idea of how bad things are getting:  Here are your five totals for the national games this week:  30, 69, and 37 for Thanksgiving.  26 for the Sunday nighter.  32 for Monday Night.
  • Week average:  44.07.  (Last year:  47.31)
  • Season:  46.07  (2020:  49.55)
  • Home teams:  8-7 for the week, still under .500 for the year at 87-89-1.  (Last year:  6-10 for 91-85-1)
  • Interesting statistic this week:  This week, the 2021 NFL season not only had the 100th game of the year go under the Vegas total, but the 100th favorite to win the game, but also the 100th favorite to fail to cover the Vegas point spread.
  • The Over was 7-8 for the week for 77-101-2 for the 180 games played.  (Last year:  6-10 for 88-85-4)
  • ATS:  Another losing week for bettors against the spread:  Favorites were 7-8.  Season:  77-101-2.  (Last year:  5-10-1 for 73-98-3)
  • Straight Up:  Only 8-7 this week.  105-72-1 for the year.  (Last year:  11-5 for 115-58-1)
  • This is a week football coaches will probably point to for their disciplinary mantras.  In the NFL this week, only the Jets committed more penalties than their opponent and won.  1-10 for the week, 71-84 for the year.  (Last year:  9-5 for 68-84)
  • 166 penalties this week in 15 games (just over 11 a game).  For the 180 games in the season:  2,233 penalties (about 12.4 a game).  Last year:  195 for the 16 in the week (12.2) for 2,041 in 177 games (11.3))
  • Three Cliffhangers, all last minute.  40 for the year.  (Last year Week 12 also had 3, 33 total)
  • Ten of the fifteen games finished within one score.  85 of the 180 for the year (about 47%).  (Last year:  8 and 95)
  • Four non-competitive games, all in the early Sunday window.  67 of those for the year.  (Last year:  6, but only for a total of 53 for the year.)
  • And five Last Chance Misses for 41 of those for the year.  (Last year:  3 for 56)
