Day 623

  • That was quick and brutal.  Less than 12 hours after getting rolled by Tampa Bay, the Giants have fired their offensive coordinator.  Too bad that will come nowhere close to sufficient...
  • Scary incident in Brooklyn last night -- Seth Rollins got jumped by a fan last night as he was leaving his Monday Night Raw match.  Guy's charged with all the relevant offenses, including one they should've put on me 20+ years ago if it was on the books:  Attempted Disruption of Arts and Cultural Affairs.  It is a stated Penal Code in the state of New York to take any action deemed disruptive to the ongoing performance of a sporting event, theatre event, movie screening, etc.
  • Injured Auburn quarterback Bo Nix has openly accused the Southeastern Conference of rigging games for Alabama.  NO SHIT, SHERLOCK!  Who do you think these referees work for?  More titles = more money for the conference.
  • Two former Atlanta Dream players have been banned for a game or two when they sign their next WNBA contracts:  A May altercation outside a nightclub got Courtney Williams a 2-game ban and Crystal Bradford 1.
  • Three games after being brought in as a possible injury aid for Travis Henry, the Tennessee Titans have waived Adrian Peterson.  Good.
  • Dick Vitale has made a triumphant and successful return to the booth, broadcasting tonight's #1 vs. #2 Gonzaga vs. UCLA match in Las Vegas.  Vitale broke down in tears on TV at the open, recalling that, a scant month and a half ago, it was thought his cancer may be far more serious and that he may never have gotten back to the booth.  Obviously, future schedule IS unknown and health-pending, but if he can be there, he will be there.
  • Too bad the game is being fixed for Gonzaga.  At least one where even Vitale, with one eye, could see three guys cream a UCLA player, no call.  And then, two minutes to go in the first half, a Flagrant-1 on a UCLA player, who, seconds before his elbow, had a Gonzaga fist in his throat!!!  I'd have accepted Mutual Flagrant-1s, two shots each, possession arrow.
  • And the existential crisis of the NWSL continues.  After losing last Saturday in the league's championship match to the Washington Spirit, the Chicago Red Stars are now looking for a new coach -- and, guessed it...  Allegations of emotional abuse by Rory Dames.  They're not going to be able to continue play without a complete flush of the male power in that women's soccer league.
