NFL 2023 Week 1 Fine Blotter

According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, 32 different plays resulted in fines this week.

And here's how we know:  The NFL, for the first time, is going to reveal the play on which the fine happened as well as list all fines in a "Gameday Accountability" page.

We'll see when the league ceases the practice.

We begin with the season's first TWO-TIME LOSER, and a many time offender.
  • DK Metcalf:  $21,854, two $10,927 fines.  One for taunting, one for a blindside cheapshot.  Within sixteen seconds of each other.
    • Week 18, 2022:  $21,219, UC
    • Eight weeks before:  $29,785, non-physical UC against an official
    • November 2021:  Got in a fight against the Packers, $6,949
    • Two weeks before that:  UC/taunting/excessive celebration for $6,949
    • Two weeks before THAT:  Another UC, another $6,949
    • December 2020, $6,831 for an excessive celebration
    • Where's the suspension?
Here's one that should've been a toss.
  • Arizona Cardinals:  Kyzir White:  $18,056 for forcible lowered head contact on the quarterback.  It was also late, and satisfied all three criteria for an ejection under the helmet rule, and New York should've stepped in for the toss.
    • For those not knowing:  Lowering the helmet to initiate contact, direct path to the other helmet, no mitigating factor.
And three more Cardinals were fined in the game:
  • Paris Johnson got $10,927 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Rondale Moore got $10,491 for unnecessary roughness.
  • And K'Von Wallace got $5,611 for involvement in an altercation.
THE ADMISSION MONDAY NIGHT WAS RIGGED:
  • New York Jets:  Chazz Suratt was fined for the tripping no-call, $4,833.
  • New York Jets:  And I guess I can tack this TWO-TIME LOSER here:  Quincy Williams got $26,666 -- two $13,333 unnecessary roughness fines.  Neither penalty was flagged.
Others:
  • Denver Broncos:  Kareem Jackson, $14,819 for a concussion hit eliminating the Raiders' Jakobi Meyers from the game.
  • Las Vegas Raiders:  Meyers, before he left, got a $10,927 taunting fine after a touchdown reception.  No call.
  • Las Vegas Raiders:  Divine Deablo got $7,547 for a face mask.
  • Los Angeles Rams:  Aaron Donald, $16,931 for roughing the passer.
    • Going back to 2016, that is his 12th NFL fine, his third for roughing the passer.
      • That said, according to Spotrac, his last RTP fine was 2019, so that probably doesn't qualify for aggravation on that specific rule.
      • And also, according to Spotrac, he was not fined for a Week 18 2022 RTP late hit out of bounds that might well should've gotten HIM investigated for direct manipulation of the result of the contest.
      • AGAIN, WHERE IS THE DAMN SUSPENSION?
  • Los Angeles Rams:  Alaric Jackson:  $5,259 for unnecessary roughness, altercation involvement.
  • Buffalo Bills:  Matt Milano:  $10,927 for taunting.
  • Atlanta Falcons:  Parker Hesse:  $5,222 for a horse-collar tackle.
  • Tennessee Titans:  Azeez Al-Shaair:  $13,934 for a late quarterback hit.
  • Tennessee Titans:  Julius Chestnut:  $4,861 for involvement in an altercation after a play.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers:  Keanu Neal for an altercation, $8,556.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers:  Christian Kuntz, ripping the helmet off another player, $5,222.
    • Kuntz is listed in the report as "the bad boy of NFL long snappers".
  • Baltimore Ravens:  Brandon Stephens, $7,251 for a helmet hit on defenseless receiver the referee chose not to call.
  • Baltimore Ravens:  The third TWO-TIME LOSER of the week:  Justin Madubuike:  $21,854 for two $10,927 face masks.
  • Miami Dolphins:  Alec Ingold:  $14,300 for unnecessary roughness, unflagged.  Lowering head to initiate helmet to helmet contact on a block.
  • Washington Commanders:  Nick Gates:  $10,927 for unnecessary roughness.
  • Washington Commanders:  Antonio Gibson:  $11,473 for unnecessary roughness.  He got seriously involved in the altercation after the Kyzir White cheap-shot.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  Robert Hainsey:  $7,282 for a peel-back block.
  • San Francisco 49ers:  Deommodore Lenoir:  $5,618 for a late hit.
  • Minnesota Vikings:  Dean Lowry:  $10,927 for a face mask.
  • Houston Texans:  Jalen Pitre:  $11,306 for a low block.
  • Green Bay Packers:  Rasul Douglas:  $13,659 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Green Bay Packers:  De'Vondre Campbell:  $10,927 for unnecessary roughness.  Throwing a player off the pile.
According to the NFL themselves, that is the complete list for Week 1.
