2023 NFL Week Two Score Report

Oh, barring real-life interference, we've got shit to get into this week.

That's FIVE GAMES this week the refs had direct hand in the final result -- three by flagrant DPI no-calls in key situations.  And two more where dives were taken to suit Vegas.

You still wanna believe these games are legit?  You still wanna believe this league isn't corrupt enough to send out a Damar body double if they could pass him off?

Holy Cripe!!!  After a Week One that was largely hands-off, this was almost the opposite.  And in more ways than just that...

  • After a Week One with only 41 points a game, this week was 49.75.
  • The two week average is now 45.375 -- predictably.  :)
  • Home teams scrambled to 7-9 for the week, and are six games under .500 for the season at 13-19.
  • After a Week One in which the Over went 4-12 -- it went 13-3 this week!!!  17-15 for the season.
  • And favorites ate it again:  5-9-2 against the number for 11-18-2 for the year.  10-6 straight up for 18-13.
  • Oddest stat of the week:  Team with more penalties actually went 11-4 this week for 18-10 start to the season.
  • 190 penalties (11.9 per game) this week.  399 (12.2 per game for the season)
  • Biggest stat of the week:  12 of the 16 games were decided within one score.  20 for the year.
  • Only three non-competitive games (Dallas, Buffalo, and Indy).  Eight for the year.
  • Four Cliffhangers (Tennessee, Seattle (rig), Atlanta (rig), and the Giants).  Six for the year.
  • And five Last Chance Misses (Sunday nighter, both Monday nighters, the Thursday nighter, and the rig-job to screw Denver).  Seven for the year.
  • Couple of interesting sidelights:
    • Only Dallas and Pittsburgh won at home after the early Sunday starts.
    • That last four games to complete were all Last Chance Misses (Denver (rig), Sunday night (many feel was a rig on the spot and reversal on that 4th down), and both Monday nighters (another possible Vegas give in the early, and a rig on another DPI no-call late).
    • The average NFL game, through two weeks, does not even have one kickoff return a game (0.74).  We are very close to being able to abandon the kickoff.  The only question, at that point, is how to deal with an "onside kick" situation...
  • Wildest stat of the (two) week(s):  Denver is 0-2...  by a combined THREE POINTS.
