September 25, 2023 News and Notes

  • That's three weeks in a row now for "Damar Hamlin".  Hmmmmm...
  • Julie Ertz and Megan Rapinoe had their farewell matches for the USWNT in international friendlies, both victories.
  • Notre Dame only had 10 defensive players at the 1-yard line Saturday night for the final two plays of the game.  Ohio State scored on the last play of the game to beat them in a national eliminator matchup.  Hmmmmmm...  IfyouknowwhatI'msaying...
  • The plane carrying the Steelers home from Las Vegas was forced to make an emergency landing this morning in Kansas City.  No word if "Traylor" was involved.
    • Cam Heyward thought they may have to get a hold of Travis and Taylor to get home from Kansas City.
    • Another plane was summoned and they are in the air again as of about 8 this morning Pacific time.
  • And the same day "Traylor" goes public, we find out that Usher is going to headline the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show on the Las Vegas Strip.
  • Lachie Neale has won his second Brownlow Award, the Australian Football League's highest individual honor, on the week of the Grand Final.
    • Neale is the 12th player to win the award twice, and four have won three times, none since 1971.
    • One of the reasons I mention the Brownlow is because it is one of the only such "MVP" awards with a full disqualifier for any player sufficiently sanctioned for any on-field misconduct by the league's disciplinary tribunal.
    • The Brisbane Lions will face Collingwood in Saturday's Premiership match.
      • Collingwood is going for their 16th league championship.
      • Brisbane Lions, their fourth and first since three in a row in 2001-2003.
  • Arrest warrant for the Chargers' JC Jackson, failure to pay a $600 fine and do four hours of class on reckless driving.
  • Another hit by Minkah Fitzpatrick last night may have put out Jimmy Garoppolo -- a hit with seven minutes to go by Fitzpatrick whiplashed Garoppolo's head off the ground and put him in the concussion protocol.

Matt Williams:

  • It now appears that the Bears HR Department was also involved in his removal, meaning this was almost-certainly not a resignation, but a firing for cause.
    • And it still does not preclude the possibilities, including the denied raid of work computers at Halas Hall, we've thought of since last week.
  • And it sounds like, according to Dov Kleinman, a "forensic vehicle" was parked at Halas Hall, though it is believed that is standard practice in such a termination.
    • So it sounds like he "resigned", but in fact was fired for "inappropriate conduct", though no one is still saying what.
      • So this doesn't help him, because I can think of only three such states of "conduct" which would get the persona non grata.  Even sexual harassment would probably not go that far (and that would probably involve the league, which see Dan Snyder and the personal conduct policies).  And sabotage...  Oof...
