September 27, 2023 News and Notes

  • Well, this is somewhat interesting...  It sounds like it is official.  Izzy Silyagi is now fully in the world of a professional wrestling career.  Had her debut match about six weeks ago for a women's indie promotion in Texas, and it does sound like dues are going to be properly paid.
    • Her new ring name:  Izzy Moreno (her Colombian great-grandmother's maiden name).  But no mystery as to who she is, nor her backstory.
    • First match was about a month ago, just over ten minutes, a loss to Jazmin Allure.  If you're interested, streaming service Title Match Wrestling has the video
      • And it does appear, at least in Mission Pro Wrestling, Moreno actually has HER OWN SUPERFAN!
    • She is now 16.  Bit young for the United States wrestling, don't we think, people?
  •  Trevor Siemian has been added as a New York Jets quarterback...
    • ... and the racist Colin Kaepernick boycott/blackballing continues.  He actually offered the Jets a look, and the team refused it.
  • The Writers Guild of America strike is over -- the leadership has agreed to the tentative agreement.
    • Drew Carey will offer one more day of (now-celebratory) meals at two different Hollywood restaurants, as he had for the entire 20-week strike.
  • Baseball:
    • Phillies are the 4 seed in the NL.
    • Atlanta retains their advantage and is now Magic Number 2 for the #1 NL seed.
    • Beating the Cubs
    • Diamondbacks win, Cincy wins, Miami was rained out
    • NL WC 5/6:  ARI 83-74, CHC 82-75, MIA 81-75 (1/2 out), CIN 81-77 (1 1/2 out), both SD and SF Tragic Number 1.
    • AL #1/4 and East:  Baltimore and Tampa both won, Baltimore 2 1/2 up.
    • AL West:  Texas now 2 1/2 up on Houston.  3 on Seattle.  Seattle beat Houston, Texas won.
    • AL WC 5/6:  Toronto (lost) 87-70, Houston 86-72, Seattle 85-72 (1/2 out)
  • Significant social-media-led rioting and looting in Philly Tuesday night.  No deterrent.  Punishment is one thing, but it's deterrent you need to get...
  • Speaking of...  A youth football coach in Murrieta, CA is under arrest for punching a 14-year-old on the other team in a game Saturday.  The kid has a concussion, the coach arrested for child abuse with great injury.  Out on $35000 bail.
  • Bruce Springsteen has cancelled all remaining 2023 tour dates -- peptic ulcer disease.  The dates will try to be rescheduled to 2024.
