Murka Day (Observed) News and Notes, Part Two: Murka Day I

  • Great to see the hypocrisy.  After a summer of NFL gambling scandals, the NFL Redzone channel is now fully sponsored by an American sportsbook:  Draftkings.
  • And an ejection hit on the QB not called, didn't even take a quarter...
  •  Remembering that there are three criteria:  Lowered helmet, direct path, no mitigation.
  • Something else to think about as the NFL ramps up the scripts:  Three more Pennsylvania high-school football players were airlifted to hospitals during high school games last Friday night, a week after Mason Martin's injury (Penn Live Patriot-News):
    • Antwan Black, blow to the head, was briefly motionless.
    • Michael Egetow, concussion on top of a hip injury
    • But the worst of the three appears to be the game stopped in Jersey Shore when their defensive end Max Engle collapsed on the field.
      • He also appears to have a brain injury.
  • I really hope you fuckers enjoyed that early block...  Somehow...
  • SOME improvement in the latter block.
  • Total average for the week through Sunday main is right about at last year:  41.29.  The last two years' Week 1 are the lowest since 2017.
  • Favorites were 1-4 straight-up in the late block.  All five home teams lost.
  • One Cliffhanger and stop me if you heard this script before:  Tua Time!!
    • Aided by an asinine pass interference penalty by the Chargers' JC Jackson to extend the first half and give Miami an all-important field goal.  No coincidences.  Maybe not the level of Jalen Ramsey to aid the Seahawks and Joseph Ossai handing the Super Bowl berth to Kansas City last year, but...
  • And this ejectable shot took only two plays in the Sunday nighter...
