Day 637

  • SI's Awards (to be updated as the night goes on):
  1. Gamer of the Year (it's an athlete award, not an e-sports one):  Juju Smith-Schuster
  2. Play of the Year:  South Dakota Hail Mary to beat South Dakota State, 11/13/21.
  3. Male Athlete of the Year (I am almost assuming they separated out College/Olympic from professional -- see below):  Caleb Dressel
  4. Female Athlete of the Year:  Suni Lee
  5. Hometown Hero of the Year:  Candace Parker, Chicago
  6. The Best Dressed Athlete of the Year:  Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat
  7. Breakthrough Athlete of the Year:  LaMelo Ball
  8. Previous announced SportsKid of the Year:  Basketball dribbling savant and 2021 National Spelling Bee Winner Laila Avant-Garde
  9. Previous announced Muhammad Ali Legacy Award:  Billie Jean King
  10. TOM BRADY is the 2021 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year.  Tom Brady becomes, with his 2005 win as well, only the third man to win the award multiple times.  Brady and Tiger Woods have won it twice, LeBron James has technically won it three times -- twice on the court, the third being part of the humanitarian-causes group which won last year's award.
  • Unvaccinated athletes will not be allowed to play in Toronto, and the NBA and NHL have warned unvaccinated players about crossing the Canadian border.
  • With the diplomatic boycott of Beijing 2022 by the United States now assured, China is saying that the USA will pay a price for it.  Boycott the whole damn Games, USA.  Have a spine if you're going to do anything at all!!
