- Oof, there's going to be some things to talk about in the Politicals post this week!
- But to the scoring...
- Another lower week this week: 46.5625 PPG this week for a season average of 47.14 PPG.
- Last year: Week 4: 52.47 for a season average of 51.32
- Home teams 8-8 this week for a season total of 31-32. (Last year: 6-9 for 31-31-1)
- As an adjunct to scoring being down four points a game over the first four weeks, the Over is taking a beating this season: 6-10 this week for 26-38 for the year. (Last year: 7-7-1 for 36-26-1)
- Favorites had a decent week. .500 against the number, 10-6 straight up. Still 26-38 for the year against the number, 37-27 straight up.
- Last year on the favorites: ATS: 7-7-1 for 30-31-1. SU: 10-5 for 42-19-1.
- Penalties: Team with more was 6-8 this week for 26-29 for the season. (Last year: 5-7 for 24-30)
- 195 penalties this week (12.2 per game). For the season, 810 in 64 games (12.7). (Last year (61 games, 15 Wk 4): 154 (10.3) for a season total of 721 (11.5))
- Five Cliffhangers this week, including 2 doubles. 16 of the 64 games have now ended with at least one lead change or tie in the last two minutes or overtime. (Last year's week 4 didn't have any! 11 total for last season through four weeks.)
- Eight games finished eight points or less in margin, one score. That's only 30 of the 64 games, for a statistic that's been well over 50% of the games the last several years. (Last year: 9 for 33)
- Six games were "non-competitive" -- that, at no point in the fourth quarter, was the margin eight points or less. 23 of those for the year so far. (Last year: 3 for 18)
- And, finally, games in which a team had a reasonable shot (from an onside kick to a Hail Mary, to a turnover down the field to a missed field goal) to Cliffhanger the game in the final 2 minutes, I call a Last Chance Miss. This week had 5 for a season total of 16. (Last year: 7 for 23)
The truth is not what actually happened. It's what you can ENFORCE happened. It's ALL enforcement.
