This was at least some of the penalties for the last race, to give you an indication:

Hendrick Motorsports got caught modifying a roof part which is standard-supplied and not to be modified.  As a result:

• The 5 (Kyle Larson), the 9 (Chase Elliott, driven by Josh Berry), the 24 (William Byron), and the 48 (Alex Bowman) were all four Hendrick cars.
• A fifth car, the 31 (Justin Haley), was also involved.
• 100 driver's points
• 100 owner's points
• 10 playoff points
• $100,000 fines and four-race suspensions for all the crew chiefs...

AT WHAT POINT DO WE JUST THROW TEAMS OFF THE GODDAMN TRACK???

Oh, and that's not the only penalty:

• An aggressive-driving penalty was incurred by Denny Hamlin for intentionally wrecking another car -- $50,000 fine, 25 points.
• Two crew members of the 10 (Aric Almarola) were banned two races for failing to properly secure a tire.

Two concerning stories about NASCAR today...

First, the second "Clash at the Coliseum" in LA didn't go very well.

At least three drivers have alerted NASCAR to the fact that the modifications made to the cars to try to make them less violent during crashes may have actually made things worse.

And then, the fact that the race was marred with quite a number of such events is indicative that...  let's just say it could be a very interesting season -- and in a Chinese not-good way.

Not only that, but at least two drivers now have concussion issues.  Kurt Busch and Alex Bowman...

But that might pale in comparison to what came out of Mexico regarding Kurt's brother Kyle.

Kyle was arrested for what he says was erroneously bringing a weapon on his family trip to Mexico.

If you want to see how they don't play about such stuff, he was sentenced last week to 3 1/2 years in Mexican prison.  So, at barest of minimum, he has been stripped of any ability to race in Mexico anymore.

A significant bond was paid to the Mexican authorities to delay the prison sentence.  NASCAR has already ruled that the offense does NOT violate their personal conduct policies.

OH FUCKING BULLSHIT, NASCAR!!!

Stop it.  Just throw this fucker out of the sport and be done with him!  Even if he has all the valid permits in the United States, that was a serious felony in Mexico AND brought your entire series into further disrepute.  I can't see how any of your circuits can now race in Mexico if the authorities have an IQ above that of the normal Republican (or, alternatively, of the average NASCAR fan or authority figure)!

NASCAR put this in the rule book directly, Section 12.8, seven years ago (Source:  FOX Sports, one of their broadcast partners):

“NASCAR membership is a privilege. With that privilege comes certain benefits, responsibilities and obligations. Correct and proper conduct, both on and off the race track, is part of a Member’s responsibilities. A Member’s actions can reflect upon the sport as a whole and on other NASCAR Members. Ideally, NASCAR Members are role models for the many fans who follow this sport, regardless of the type of license a Member may hold, or the specific Series in which a Member may participate. Therefore, NASCAR views a Member’s conduct, both on and off the race track, which might constitute a behavioral rules violations under this Rule Book with great importance.”

This falls under their Section e of such a ruling, where any penalty from a fine to banishment from the sport is on the table:

"Being charged with or convicted of significant criminal violations (e.g. Domestic Violence, Trafficking, Assault), or having had determinations rendered by criminal or civil authorities that in NASCAR’s judgment necessitate action. NASCAR will not pre-judge guilt or innocence in the criminal or civil legal system, or the guilt or innocence of the Member, but rather review each matter in its own context and circumstances and with regards to its potential effects upon the sport."

With this guy's track record, how many DOZEN chances does he get?

And not only THAT, NASCAR, do you even have any semblance of realization of the damage he's done to the sport and to your series in Mexico???

Ross Chastain pulled an absolute video-game move to make the Championship Final of last year's top-flight NASCAR series playoffs.

Needing to pass Denny Hamlin on the last lap of the final race of the preceding round, Chastain did THIS -- taking his car to the wall and FLOORING IT...

There was immediate speculation that NASCAR would make the move illegal for the Championship final -- they waited until the off-season and stated today will impose a time penalty if the move is duplicated.

So why not basically advance Hamlin instead of Chastain last year and do so in the best interests of safety of racing, NASCAR?

This may be about turning as good of a week in NASCAR as it is in professional wrestling...

Just hours after it was revealed a racist track owner in North Carolina was selling nooses as "Bubba Ropes" on Facebook, NASCAR had to announce that the crew chief of the "Blue Lives Matter" pro-police car in the XFinity Series has been banned from the sport indefinitely after a habitual assault of women charge was filed against him.

Something tells me that's all one and the same.

Couple of further updates...

• Brett Gardner and Aaron Boone are going to be facing suspension pretty soon, as the umpires have had more than enough of their shit.

In a move which indicate the balance of power heading to Houston for another world championship, Gardner, after another rigged third strike to another Yankee batter, starting his now-famous banging of the bat against the roof of the dugout this afternoon.

In a protracted argument, this resulted in his ejection (at least the second since the infamous "Savages In The Box" argument), as the umpires, thanks to an increasingly-popular baseball meme YouTuber named Jomboy (whose videos I occasionally view -- and he was featured in ESPN yesterday!) for that act, which has been deemed showing up the umpires in that situation.

By the end of it, Gardner, manager Aaron Boone, and injury-list pitcher CC Sabathia were all tossed.  The Yankees won, 6-5.

• Dodger pitcher Julio Urias has been banned 20 games for a violence incident against a woman back in May. (Deadspin)
• Ezekiel Elliot will be cleared of all potential charges regarding an assault on an EDM staffer in Las Vegas in May.  (Deadspin)

CBS News had the story in 1999.  James Brooks hadn't been paying child support, and chose to go to jail instead of fulfilling his requirements as a father.

Brooks was functionally illiterate, and Denninger, as the money quote for his post, seized this from the CBS News article...

"Didn't have to go to class," Brooks said. "In this country, it was all about how good you are, and I was one of the best in the country."

People don't get it.  There is no rule of law...  Probably never has been.

Brooks probably has done many things (in the name of being Football Man) which would get ordinary people imprisoned for life.

But there is one important thing people don't get.  The law confuses this as a person's actions having what is referred to as "legitimate purpose".

What is really being adjudicated or charged is not the action having "legitimate purpose", but the actor of said action.

Brooks didn't have to do anything as a student because his Football Man status gave him legitimate purpose and free reign, as such.

And, once that legitimate purpose ends, it can all come crashing down, as it has for Brooks.

I would suggest that Denninger look into Vince McMahon's league and damn well hope my fear for it comes true -- that it is a league of, by, and for White players.

• Kevin Harvick qualified for the championship.

Now onto a messy week in football.

• Home teams were 8-5 so far, the over is 7-6, the average is about 48.5
• Another losing week for favorites against the number -- 5-7-1 so far.
• Team with more penalties is 7-3!  Another week like the two light fine blotters, though.
• Another week with zero Cliffhangers.  Have not had one in two full weeks of action now.

Several interesting stats:

• EIGHT non-competitive games this week.  Same number as Week 7 of 2017, but two fewer games, so far.  Week 2 of 2017 also had 8 in a full schedule.
• The last week with 9 non-competitive games:  Week 9, 2014.
• Since I have started tracking, I do not believe there has ever been two consecutive weeks without a single Cliffhanger.

Those were from my research.  The rest of this is from Pro Football Reference:

• Philadelphia lost a Last Chance Miss Sunday Night, 27-20 to Dallas.  The unique nature of this was that they committed zero penalties in the game.  This has only happened 13 times since the turn of the millenium.  Last team to do it was Cleveland, losing to Jacksonville 19-7, committing no penalties on November 19, 2017.
• Speaking of Cleveland:  They actually WON a non-competitive game today.  First time since December 13, 2015, beating San Francisco 24-10.
• For the second time this year, a touchdown or more favorite has lost by 31 points or more.  When the Jets, as seven point favorites, fell to Buffalo 41-10, they became only the 8th such team in NFL history.  Ironically, the Jets WON a game under these same conditions, Week 1 this year, vs. Detroit.

With two of the dregs playing Monday Night -- have fun, ESPN!!! -- now it's time to start looking at storylines.

AFC:

1.  Kansas City 9-1

2.  New England 7-3  (big loss today to Tennessee)

3.  Pittsburgh 6-2-1

4.  Houston 6-3

5.  LA Chargers 7-2

6.  Cincinnati 5-4  (Tennessee eliminated on 3-4 AFC record vs. Cincy's 3-2)

Tennessee, as of the end of Week 10, will be the only NFL team with a winning record eliminated from the playoffs.

2.  New Orleans 8-1 (will take the #1 seed with a win on LA's bye week, they have the HTH tiebreak)

Beginning to get a real Rams-Chargers vibe.  League needs to justify the NFL experiment out in LA, and if getting one to the Super Bowl won't do it, will getting BOTH there do it?

Two examples of why The Show CANNOT Still Go On...

Two stories this week...  And both sanctioning bodies seriously fumbling the ball.

First, Q-School of the LPGA Tour.

Doris Chen was thrown out of the tournament of qualification for the LPGA Tour when her mother was caught replacing a ball Chen shot out of bounds back in bounds.

Let that process.

Doris Chen (or, at the very least, her mother) thought they could get away with the equivalent of the ol' "foot wedge" or somesuch AT Q-SCHOOL.

And Chen is no lightweight, or at least supposedly so!! 

She's the 2014 NCAA women's golf champion.  Along with other honors.

And her caddie was told to shut up about all this!!!

There is no word on further penalty at this time, but I agree with the golf fan who sometimes anonymously gives me information and a bullshit detector:  Start the bidding at about a FIVE-YEAR BAN.

And then, there's Kevin Harvick last Sunday.

We're smack dab in the middle of the Eliminator Round -- the final round before the one-race championship.

Harvick won the race, which would've gotten him automatic qualification for the Homestead finale.

Instead, he has received one of the stiffest possible penalties.

• 40 championship points
• Removal of the championship qualification
• Suspension of the crew chief for the remainder of the season
• A probable rule change for 2019 which will make offenses at this level (and perhaps others below it) OUTRIGHT DISQUALIFICATION (... which should've been the case for years already!)
• And changes in the inspection procedures, as it's now apparent the sport cannot be trusted by it's sanctioning body.

Harvick's team won the race with an illegal non-standard spoiler -- a very, very serious offense.

Harvick was also thrown out of his victory in Las Vegas -- and he has the pole for the final Eliminator race tomorrow.

Why is he not parked until Daytona?  None of this is going to change until the sponsors are effected, monetarily.  And there's only one way that gets done -- remove the damn car and team from the track.

NASCAR Just Went Over The Line

We've got a problem in NECK-CAR.

I'm going to have to boycott future coverage of NASCAR.

And, when you see the locales of many of the races involved, you can almost see where this is going.

Phil Robertson of "Duck Dynasty" gave the invocation tonight, and he called, in the prayer, for a "man of God" to be elected President in November.

Congratulations, NECK-CAR, you've finished the job and gone over to bigotry, hatred, and probably murder.  In doing so, this bearded piece of goddamned (intended wording!) excrement has endorsed Ted Cruz for all the world to see.

And by allowing this piece of shit a microphone, you have too.

And by allowing this piece of shit a microphone, you riled up the NASCAR fanatics that take their "number" over their country.  In a day and age where it is clear that the Republican party is trying to install an "anointed President" who will kill lesbians, gays, transgenders, and bisexuals (and all of their supporters) in the (purported) name of God.

And by allowing this piece of shit a microphone, you are enabling this whole movement of "The South Shall Rise Again".  This same "South" that now has two states which now have legalized discrimination against GLBT's -- which was settled law a long time ago (Texas sodomy decision, Obgerefell, etc. and so forth).

(Here's a hint:  Your arguments make no sense.  If you were really about "PROTECT THE CHILDREN!", I'd really love to bring you here to see what the children here in some parts of California have to deal with.)

Danica Patrick fined $50,000, docked 25 points, probation to year end.  (Separate incident.)

Matt Kenseth has been banned for two races for taking out Joey Logano.  Six months probation afterward.

Fuck that, NASCAR.  First off, that's the end of "Have at it, boys!" You just gave the Chase drivers protected status, not only in not being taken out, but to take out other drivers, like Logano did Kenseth several weeks ago.

Second, if you're going to ban Kenseth, do it all the way to before the Daytona 500 and be done with it!

So NOW it's inconvenient to "Have At It, Boys"?

Matt Kenseth was thrown out of the Goody's 500 today for an intentional wreck of Joey Logano.

This was in response to Logano wrecking Kenseth to win a race in the previous round of the Chase for the Championship.

Kenseth, already eliminated from the Chase, fairly blatantly retaliated today to wreck Logano and force him to win one of the next two races or be eliminated from the Championship Race in Miami in three weeks.

As a result, Kenseth was parked by NASCAR officials and faces a possible suspension, as NASCAR officials won't rule out parking Kenseth for further races.

So NOW it's inconvenient for the boys to "have at it"?

Oh, and, by the way, Jeff Gordon won the race and, as a result of his season standing and that win, will be one of the four drivers for the championship in the Championship Race.

Are They Going To Rig Another Title For That Bitch Harvick Acting Like A Bitch?

Last year, it was Kevin Harvick deciding to let a lot of people beat the shit out of Brad Keselowski rather than taking the matter into his own hands.

This year, he's just taken matters into his own hands to ensure qualification, and the only question now is whether they're rigging him another title, or whether NASCAR is so fucking incompetent that they know fuck all for what they're doing!

Today was the third and final race of Round 2 of the Chase -- after today, 8 drivers would remain, and we're in Talladega.

We're into NASCAR's version of overtime, and the word is that NASCAR only was going was going to attempt the Green-White-Checkered finish once.

So Kevin Harvick wrecks several of his competitors in the Chase and qualifies as a result.

And when you hear the rest of the story, it's even worse.

The original thought was that Harvick intentionally wrecked the field to see if he could manipulate his way in.

The truth appears to be far worse for NASCAR.

The broadcast of the race indicated that Kevin Harvick's car could not go above the pace-car speed, and that the engine would break down the moment he attempted it.

So NASCAR ALLOWS THE RESTART, the engine goes blooey, and you get The Talladega Big One, Harvick into the next round once the placements are sorted out!

There's only two possibilities, Mike Helton (who has already absolved Harvick of wrongdoing):

Either you're too damn incompetent to oversee a car-racing league...

OR

You're going to rig that bitch Harvick another title!

(Oh, by the way, this is the second race this round that a key result was dictated by either intentional wreck or NASCAR incompetence.)

Tony Stewart: I Was Wrong

The Ward family has finally sued Tony Stewart for wrongful death.

Unless this is symbolic, they should spare their breath.  The more we are finding out about Kevin Ward Jr. that night on the track, he had NO BUSINESS THERE.

Impairable levels of marijuana, weaving in and out of the track until he found Stewart...

And the thing is:  The best for all involved might be a settlement.

You better hope that's what you get, because I can't think you're going to get a verdict, and, the bigger of that you want, the more of a piece of shit you look like.

Why?

No amount of money is bringing your son back.

So is this an actual attempt at determination (which you will probably lose), or is this an attempt to cash your son's corpse as a lottery ticket (which you DAMN WELL BETTER LOSE!!!)?
