NFL Suspension Blotter and some political MLB news...

First, three more suspensions:

• Atlanta Falcons:  James Pearce suspended the for 8 games, personal conduct.  For being accused of taking his car and ramming it into his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.  Let that process.  Attempted murder gets you only 8 games in the NFL.
• Buffalo Bills:  Phidarian Mathis:  Banned for the first 3 games.  Sounds like a repeat offense of failing to cooperate with the Substances of Abuse policy.
• Washington Commanders:  Dorance Armstrong, 1 game for personal conduct, assault and resisting arrest charges under probation in 2025.

And then, it sounds like the vibes against San Francisco's Pride celebrations worked for the Giants:

The Giants and the Bay Area host the All-Star Game for MAGA League Baseball in 2028.

When are people going to learn that Epstein and high-level pedophilia are at the center of Americana?

• The day after Robert Kraft was arrested for solicitation, etc. in that backwater Florida massage parlor whose owner has ties to Donald Trump (you know, that morning of the AFC Championship Game he was getting a rub-and-tug there before catching a flight to Kansas City), Epstein (in a text exchange) noted that there was another "past issue" that may come to ultimate light.  It has not, as of yet... 
• The co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers (and the man who the league went to to remove the stain of the Commanders ownership), Josh Harris, has YEARS of exchanges with Epstein, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
• From a boycotted source but found on Reddit:  Steve Tisch, a co-owner of the Giants, had girls scouted for him from Epstein.  At least one was apparently from the Ukraine, according to the Justice Department.  The Justice Department, for 18 and up, actually has PDF copies of some of the communications, with relevant redacting. 

I'll just leave it at the question I pose above...  When are people going to learn that, for the elite, pedophilia is central to the American experience? 

This, from the same set of releases indicating that Bill Gates probably has STD's from pedophilia with Russian girls -- he apparently was trying to get medications for same to protect his wife, according to the records!

That suspension may be the most expensive in sports history...

DK Metcalf, who was suspended two games for an altercation with a fan he has historic beef with (and the non-zero chance the fan spewed racial slurs), has just, as a result of the suspension, had his entire contract guarantee voided:  FORTY.  MILLION.  DOLLARS.

And, as again predicted:

DK Metcalf has been suspended for the remainder of the regular season for his altercation with a Detroit fan at Ford Field.

And the worse thing is this probably isn't the first time:  The two apparently have beef and history.

I was going to do this article already, but Keith Olbermann and his daily new iHeartRadio Countdown podcast (yes, it's back, Republicans...) gives a bit of a precursor.

As a bit of an analogue to a thought I had while laying down and conserving power (100+ and dewpoint 50+ makes for a cranky circuit board) yesterday, Keith gave the Bronze Medal in Wednesday's "Worst Persons in the World" contest to Barfstool Sports' Dave Portnoy.

In response to the incident I just showed you at the Little League Regionals, Portnoy said, and I'm quoting from Olbermann:

And I cleaned that up, apparently this sod can't even recognize sportsmanship as one word!  Probably because he has neither seen nor recognized an act of sportsmanship in his entire sodden life!

I just want that to process as I put down a number of (not nearly all-inclusive) situations here.  And I'm not talking just football, though many football names and situations will be here.

• A litany of Olympic and professional athletes who are taking or have taken drugs openly prohibited by Federal law (Carl Lewis, Mike Powell, Barry Bonds and the entire BALCO regime, just for a few starters...) -- that includes, now, you, Aaron Rodgers...

And I could go on and on and on -- the point is simple:

I have said for a long time that I believe the sport of football, in it's own merit, should be put on trial.  I still believe that.

But now I believe I have come to a more disturbing conclusion.

I am not going to say this applies to all athletes, championships, etc. and so forth and so on.

However, I do have to begin to wonder:

Is the concept of sporting excellence at least partially... if not dependent, at least correlative, to criminality or other lack of boundaries on the part of the athletes.

That, in short, to be a successful athlete (in MANY CASES BUT NOT ALL), is it now necessary that such an athlete have mens rea, a pre-existing "criminal mind" which indicates you are willing to transcend what is considered "limits" or even "acceptable" to gain victory, not just off the sporting field, but on it as well?

Mens rea, for those not clear, is referred to as "criminal mind" in the judicial system -- that not only did the person commit a criminal action, but that the person knew it was wrong beforehand and did it anyway, probably with additional malice or violence.

I am, in no way, saying that sports do not offer and enable these idiots to act out without penalty -- far from it.  We know this is the case.

But I now wonder, ADDITIONALLY, if we are now looking at a feedback loop.  That either:

• These people are so far gone because of their coddling that they are now basically in permanent "criminal mind" and gain sporting advantage from going outside limits, rules, or acceptability on the field

and/or

• They've always been of "criminal mind" (from youth, even far before high school), at which point the coddling offers a feedback loop that their criminality is excused (and, in more than one case, encouraged...), creating more criminality, more coddling, etc.

There's "Fuck Antonio Brown", and then there's clearly a guy who's a menace to society and all...

It's almost too bad we can't really diagnose CTE until after the person dies, but this is getting so ridiculous, it's not even funny.

Posted the main points of it in the Daily:  Was benched in the third quarter on his first (and last!) game back with the Tom Bradys after a 3-game NFL suspension for faking his COVID card.

If there was ONE THING which could blow up Brady vs. Belichick, it has just happened...

Confirmed:  Antonio Brown faked his vaccination status.

The NFL has suspended him three games for a fake COVID vaccination card.

Now, one has to ask if this is now the one thing which can blow up the proposed Brady vs. Belichick Super Bowl a lot of us have been talking about.

There has been a lot of press on the AFC side about Mac Jones and the Patriots.  There has been a shitton of refball already for the Patriots.

But this could blow up both -- unless the NFL wants to play a very long game and hope that Tom Brady's body (and the economy and the country) can hold up until February of 2023 and Brady vs. Belichick becomes the plan for Super Bowl LVII.

It's not the on the field you need to worry about with this situation:  Brown's been out several weeks with an ankle (purportedly).

But it's the off the field, and the NFL's position as a pillar of American society -- The National Religion.

There's also the optics of this on the heels of COVID-12 and the liar in Green Bay.  This is one reason I hope Brown, at least, appeals the decision on that basis.  And if this does put Green Bay in material consideration, how bad would THOSE optics look for the NFL?  Seriously!

And that said, there now has to be a very real and prescient question:  Is there any team out there which WANTS the NFC Championship?

• COVID-protocol fouls (and very public ones) could take out the Bucs 
• and Packers.
• It now appears the Cowboys are sufficiently in the doghouse after the punch suspension that they have to be considered down.
• Fuck you, Kroenke!

I mean, are we SERIOUSLY looking at a Baltimore-Arizona Super Bowl?  A 10-7 NFC Champion (at which point, good luck even GUESSING ONE at this point)???

Suspension Blotter: The entire (according to Spotrac) relevant Suspension Blotter for the 2020-21 league year so far...

 I usually keep track of this, but, obviously, other things have kept my attention the last few months.

• Los Angeles Chargers (Now Free Agent):  Roderic Teamer, 4 games, PED's.  The Chargers fired him for the suspension on August 1, but he still counts against the team for suspension-fine purposes because the suspension was in July.
• Free Agent:  Kentrell Brothers, 9 games, PED Strike Two.  Contract expired after last season with the Vikings.  Vikings not responsible.
• Detroit Lions:  Jayron Kearse, 3 games, substance abuse policy.
• Kansas City Chiefs:  Bashaud Breeland, 4 games, substance abuse.  Lost $712,235.  It's his second suspension for substance abuse.  He also faces ANOTHER four-game suspension on a separate substance-abuse charge, according to NFL.com on the subject.
• Reason this is important:  Kansas City Chiefs:  Mike Pennel, 2 games, PEDs.  Loses $123,235.
• If the Club Remittance Policy is as it has been, this means the Chiefs are the first team to be team-fined, and the fine is $125,320.  (15% of the lost salaries for two suspensions, 20% for 3, 25% for 4 or more, capped at certain figures)  If Breeland is dinged four more games, the fine hits the cap of $150,000 -- it is players fined, not number of suspensions.
• Jacksonville Jaguars:  Josh Mauro, 5 games, PED Strike Two.
• Seattle Seahawks:  Kyle Fuller, 2 games, substance abuse policy.
• Chicago Bears:  Marqui Christian, 2 games, no reported reason.  He was a free agent when the suspension hit.  Though the policy does not hold teams responsible for suspensions after the player leaves, the reverse is NOT true.  The policy means the Bears WILL be responsible for Christian's suspension should they receive another.

That's all of them.  Eight in total.  Obviously, the different nature of the preseason and offseason had a role to play in all of this.

Some side notes:

• As reported with disgust earlier, Myles Garrett was reinstated in February and signed the richest defensive contract in the history of the league with the Browns (5 years, $125M), on April 27.
• Vontaze Burfict's banishment from the league is over.  He was also reinstated in February.  He is currently not in the league, meaning his banishment probably is the end of his NFL career, barring somebody getting stupid.
• Josh Gordon, as recently reported, applied for reinstatement.  It has been "overseen" by the league, even though he has been suspended five times, needing FOUR reinstatements, for drugs.  If he sits any games, the Seahawks will be fined $13,235 for Fuller's suspension, plus a yet to be determined amount per game for Gordon's (up to, in his case, 15 games -- it's capped at 17 total).  The contract he apparently signed has no reported dollar figure on it, so the fine for taking him would be determined by the league.  (Probably 15% of the league minimum per game.) 
• David Irving has retired from the league because he cannot abide by the league's drug rules.
• Last Friday, Randy Gregory won reinstatement back to the NFL.  Gregory, on a new one-year deal, is second on the depth chart at his position.
• Martavis Bryant's career is probably over, as his second reinstatement for drug policies will probably not have him back on the field in 2020.
  

The Shit Is Hitting The Fan, and none of it is Super Bowl...

Some updates on how out-of-control things are getting this week:

• Dallas Keuchel has finally become the first person to apologize for the Astros' sign-stealing scandal.
• But the Commissioner of Baseball will not strip the Astros of any championships so earned.

Look, I get the can of worms and Pandora's Box that vacating titles, etc. would bring.

I think we are far past time for an ounce of bravery on the professional end (and I might do a post on titles they could easily vacate, if time and circumstances permit!) and taking away ill-earned championships.

I've been asking the question since all the -Gate stuff was starting with the Patriots:  It all comes down to the question of "What would you do to be called a champion?"

That's the thing.  Any sense of honor, credibility or decency is gone from Major League MAGA-Ball.

And you can bet that the cheating of the last couple or three years is going to run RAMPANT in the game.

Why would I, at this point, want to follow ANY rules of baseball, written or unwritten?

• Antonio Brown turned himself in on a felony robbery with battery charge of a moving truck driver in Florida.
• His bail (on what could put him in prison for the rest of his life) is at $110,000, which he has paid.
• He must surrender his passport, wear a GPS bracelet, and undergo a mental-health evaluation in the next ten days.  He was seen in the hearing early Friday morning in a suicide vest.

If he's guilty, he needs to be put away for his own safety.

Anyone with a view of the last five or six months of Antonio Brown's life would never want this man on an NFL field again.  I think one of the major reasons that Goodell has not permabanned the guy is he's tried to cover up for this guy for far too damn long.

It appears to have come to an end.  Once that mental state and evaluation come out in open court, the NFL should be (once again) put on trial.

This man is BEYOND GONE.

• Kareem Hunt is probably going to be suspended to start next season.  Cited for speeding, marijuana was found in his car.

Will SOMEONE PLEASE investigate the Cleveland Browns organization?

• But none of that, not even the baseball or Antonio Brown, compares to what happened in Lawrence, KS this week.

Kansas handily defeated cross-state rival Kansas State in men's basketball, but no one will care because of this:


This is another one of those incidents where forfeitures (both teams, and Kansas State plural for their players coming off the bench to join the brawl) are the only feasible result.

• The epicenter of this brawl was Kansas' #22:  Silvio de Sousa.

How in the fuck that guy is ever going to be allowed to play college basketball again, much less even attend the University of Kansas, after the stunts he pulled in rapid succession in that brawl, I have no idea.

First off, I am done with all these YouTube jackasses wondering why I want the hammer thrown down on taunting.

THIS IS WHY.

If you can't be mature enough to understand, as a fan, why taunting needs to be illegal with maximum penalty within contests, you openly desire games to end in brawls like this one.

Not only should de Sousa have been T'd up and ejected for taunting as he stood over the Kansas State player, he throws a number of punches, then picks up a courtside stool and damn near brains someone with it before someone picks it off.

For all of this, de Sousa is ONLY suspended the balance of the regular season by the Big XII.

The bidding SHOULD HAVE started with this:

• Disciplinary procedures for expulsion from the University of Kansas.
• A permanent revocation of his current scholarship and complete disqualification from any further athletic scholarship.
• Suspension?  Permanent if possible, but, if not:  All of this season and post-season, all of next season.

Maybe THEN someone will finally get it through to not just players, but fans as well, that enough is fucking enough with all this manhood-testing masquerading as sport.

Other penalties:

• A redshirt junior forward from Kansas State:  James Love, 8 games for probably being the guy in the black shirt who was most instrumental in going after de Sousa.
• K-State freshman forward Antonio Gordon got 3 games.
• Kansas freshman forward David McCormick got 2.

It's clear that the Big XII wants more fighting in it's games, and I don't care whether the conference's commissioner reads this and condemns me saying this.

If I were the commissioner of the league:

• Love's done and referred to the university for expulsion, like de Sousa.
• Gordon gets the rest of the regular season.
• McCormick gets 6.
• Every player who came off the bench gets 1 (and maybe more, as that video would probably get the better part of 4-6 hours of going through).
• Kansas has to forfeit one game, and Kansas State has to forfeit at least one game.

This is the primal behavior of sport.  Taunting -> Fight -> Brawl -> Etc.

And until we decide that we are going to forfeit games (at whatever level -- high school, college, pro...) for this shit, it's going to continue because it is what the fans want and it satisfies the urges of the players.

• And the New Orleans Saints have YET ANOTHER PR nightmare on their hands.

It appears that the Saints may have provided cover for local priests accused of sexual misconduct in the Roman Catholic Church in and around New Orleans.

According to ESPN, 276 documents have been unearthed to state Saints ownership (largely Roman Catholic) has been operating in a damage-control methodology to protect sexually-abusive priests.

Week Eleven Team Fine Blotter Part Three: Historic Team Fines For the NFL Push Last Night To One Million Dollars Already

Make that a $750,000 check (so far!!!) that the Browns have to cut the NFL.

• Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers:  $250,000 fine from the league.
• All suspended players have been additionally fined.  However, under the Club Remittance Policy, only $50,000 (be it fine or suspension-related) can be applied from this situation.
• (It appears these fines are the standard fines for their actions under the Fine Schedule, as reported on the fine being rescinded for Ogunjobi.)
• It appears Mason Rudolph will only be standard-ly fined for his involvement.

Steelers, Browns organizations each fined $250,000.

Week Eleven Suspension Blotter Part Two: Glad they at least aren't wasting time on it...

• Pittsburgh Steelers:  Maurkice Pouncey:  In a move which will not make many people happy, three games for punches and kicks to Garrett.
• Cleveland Browns:  Larry Ogunjobi:  One game for his involvement in shoving down Mason Rudolph.

Since that's suspension #4, you can add another $300,000 to the check the Haslams have to cut -- that's now over $498,000 just from last night, and I still think you have four other incidents AT MINIMUM last night.

NFL Week _Eleven_ Suspension Blotter Part One: The easy part first...

• Cleveland Browns:  Myles Garrett has been thrown out of the National Football League for his felonious attack last night.  The situation with Garrett will be re-evaluated after Super Bowl LIV.

As a result, the Browns are also fined another $198,004 -- $50,000 for the maximum number which can be applied against the Club Remittance fine number for an on-field act, and the rest for the augmentation to a third suspension against the Browns this league year.

That's one.  Let's see how many more...
