- Phil Mickelson is playing the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week.
It is the last time he will that or any other tournament in Detroit.Mickelson is reconsidering his stand. - Because, for some odd reason, The Detroit News dredged up records of a Detroit bookie who bilked Mickelson out of $500,000 -- ALMOST FIFTEEN YEARS AGO.
- Principle of the matter... And I agree with Phil here. WHY????
- An English bettor put down 11 pounds or so on a six-legged parlay on the money line. England and Croatia to win their R16 European Championship matches -- OK, that makes sense...
- But then he went after the winners of the weekend Champions' Tour event (Steve Stricker at 5-1), the European Tour event (Viktor Hovland at 13-2), the LPGA major (Nelly Korda, the new #1 in the world and first American #1 in the LPGA in quite a while -- 14-1)...
- And Harris English to win the PGA Tour event. English got into a playoff with Kramer Hickok by nailing a 28-foot putt on the final hole. Eight holes later, English got the only birdie, and the 35-1 shot brought the parlay home.
- ... a parlay which made the man a MILLIONAIRE, winning over one million pounds off the 11 pound bet.
- The 49ers, Jaguars, and Cowboys were all fined yesterday by the NFL for OTA violations. The Cowboys and 49ers $100K each, the Jaguars $200K -- and their head coaches half of that respective amount. Each of the teams must forfeit OTAs early in next offseason (one practice for the Cowboys and 49ers, two for the Jaguars), and the NFL ordered the premature ending of the 2021 49er OTA's. Training camp starts late this month.
The truth is not what actually happened. It's what you can ENFORCE happened. It's ALL enforcement.
