The COVIDLympics, Day -6: First Case In The Athletes' Village

  • As stated above, first COVID case in the Athletes' Village apartments -- foreign visitor, involved with setup has the virus.
  • Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur -- out of the Games, COVID.
  • Great Britain's Alex Butchart will be allowed to compete in the 5000 meters after stating on a podcast he may have altered the date of a PCR test due to protocols.  He has, however, received a suspended one-year ban and a 5000 pound fine.
  • In the "You Gotta Be Kidding Me" Department:  There were actually plans, tested in 2019 and failed, to create a man-made meteor shower in outer space for the Tokyo Opening Ceremony.
  • Racial incident terminates a pre-Olympic friendly between Germany and Honduras five minutes early.
  • Brazilian weightlifter Fernando Reis was a medal favorite at 105 kilograms until he tested positive for doping and is suspended and out of the Games.
