December 6, 2022 News and Notes

  • Going to be very interesting to see how this shakes out.  The game should've been called upon the ejections, but how THAT got eight players tossed, I have no idea.  A women's basketball game between TCU and George Washington was marred when a player accidentally got her hair pulled, sparking a fight between two players which eventually got eight tossed from the game, five from George Washington, three from TCU.  If those ejections stand, forfeitures now -- but I saw that situation on an archived feed from the broadcast.  How that got eight players ejected from the contest, I have very little idea...  Under at least the initial view of the fight I saw from the broadcast, either they missed a lot of this incident, people came off the bench, or there were far more skirmishes than were shown.  This was probably 2-3 ejections and a lot of people trying to break it up before it got that far.
  • At least one former Colorado recruit has had his scholarship and his commitment to the school revoked by new coach Deion Sanders.  It appears that anyone having to do with the previous regime is out -- and that includes players and recruits.  And if you need to know why, look at Colorado's record the last twenty years or so.
  • There is now some talk, currently denied, that Cristiano Ronaldo has been bought with Middle Eastern blood money and will end up playing in Saudi Arabia for two and a half years at a reported half-billion dollars.  If I'm MbS or similar, I'm using this farcical and demonic World Cup to openly state "We are the future of sport."
  • In a clear indication that the Tennessee Titans understand they do not have the guns to compete outside an abysmal AFC South, they fired Jon Robinson, their general manager, today.
  • Boxing referee icon Mills Lane passed away today at 85.
  • Today, Sports Illustrated announced that Stephen Curry was named the 2022 Sportsman of the Year, the second time the Golden State Warrior has won the award.
  • Tomorrow morning, Time will reveal the 2022 Person of the Year.
  • The shortlist:  Xi Jinping of China, The United States Supreme Court as a group, Elon Musk (the 2021 winner), Liz Cheney, Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Ukraine, Mackenzie Scott (ex-wife of Amazon's Jeff Bezos, for philanthropy), Iranian protestors, Ron DeSantis, Janet Yellen, Gun Safety Advocates.  Prediction:  Down to DeSantis, Zelenskyy, and the USSC.  Zelensky by a hair.
