Day 200 (Last day of the MLB and Botball regular seasons, NFL Week 3 Sunday)

  • It appears as if the team the NFL is investigating for unauthorized access to the locker room and another COVID policy violation is the Las Vegas Raiders!
  • The Lakers won the Western Conference of the NBA, 4-1 over the Nuggets.  The Eastern Conference is Game 6 tonight, 3-2 to the Miami Heat.
  • The Stanley Cup Finals will see at least a Game 6:  Dallas' Corey Perry netted the game-winner about 30 minutes into overtime to force it.  Series is 3-2 to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
  • The newest 30 For 30 expose:  Oscar Pistorius, the "Blade Runner" found legally culpable (and eventually murdering) in the death of his girlfriend.  In his native South Africa, the prosecution could appeal for a longer sentence and a greater charge, and they did -- he was convicted on prosecutorial appeal of murder and got six years, THAT was appealed and increased to 15 years.  He has served about six years and must wait three more before possible parole.  Given that both his crime and his sentence were increased on appeal via South African law, it does not appear that Pistorius will be released until October, 2029, even though he was originally recommended to house arrest as early as 10 months after the original conviction.
  • The Atlanta Falcons have the first COVID-19 miss of the year.  First-round draft pick A.J. Terrell will not play because of an apparent positive test for the coronavirus.

Quick Botball, as there is some to play for today:

  • AL seeds are largely taken care of:  Minnesota #1, Yankees #2, A's #3, Cleveland the first wild card.
  • The second wild card is tied, though, between the White Sox and Rays.
  • NL:  The winner of the National League East will be the #1 seed.  However, that, too, is a tie, between the Braves and Nationals.
  • #2 seed is the Cubs, #3 the Dodgers, first wild card is the 2nd place team in that NL East dogfight...
  • And the Second NL wild card:  Cincinnati is one game up on Arizona with the one to play today.

So:

  • Possible AL wild card playoff game Monday, if both Chicago and Tampa Bay do the same result today:  Chicago White Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays.
  • Possible NL wild card playoff game Monday, if Cincinnati loses today and Arizona wins:  Cincinnati Reds vs. Arizona Diamondback
  • Possible NL East/wild card hosting playoff game Monday, if both Washington and Atlanta do the same result today:  Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves.  Winner would be the #1 seed, loser would host the Reds or Diamondbacks.

And then:

  • AL WC game:  Chicago White Sox or Tampa Bay at Cleveland
  • NL WC game:  Cincinnati or Arizona at Atlanta or Washington
  • ALDS #1:  Winner of AL WC game vs. Minnesota
  • ALDS #2:  Oakland A's vs. New York Yankees
  • NLDS #1:  Winner of NL WC game vs. Washington or Atlanta
  • NLDS #2:  LA Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs
  • Minnesota, the Yankees, the Cubs, and the winner of the NL East have home-field advantage for the division series.
