Stay tuned on this one.

My baseball-historian friend may have to help me, but they're chucking stuff on the field in Toronto as we speak.

Texas has just taken a 3-2 lead on Toronto in what has to be one of the more bizarre plays in history.

(Source of the GIF:  Deadspin.)

Russell Martin has just thrown the ball back to the pitcher, but it hit the bat of Shin Soo-Choo.  The runner on third scored on the play -- originally waved off, then waved on, then confirmed by the umpires a second time!

Ump clearly waves the play dead.

And then, from the Tom Ley report:

"The play then went to an official replay review, and the umpires confirmed that the run had scored. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons asked for the rest of the game to be played under protest, and then a child got hit with a beer can thrown from the upper deck."

They're going to have to explain this one, and if the umpiring in these playoffs is any indication, we could have a live one right now!

(UPDATE 3:45 PDT)  And now a takeout slide at home on top of it.  Good grief, do they want the fans to burn down the stadium? Game is now 3-3.

(UPDATE 3:55)  After three Texas errors, Jose Bautista has just untied the game -- 6-3 Toronto.

(UPDATE 4:00)  OK, we finally got AN explanation, but it's not good.

At that point, why is the ump waving it off?

(UPDATE 4:07)  And the benches have cleared at least TWICE now!
