So the world is ragging on the Dodgers and Chase Utley tonight.
Here's why:
Should we be ragging? Yes.
But at Rob Manfred first. That play is the classic "takeout", and has been in force for a very very very long time.
Chase Utley is no more dirty than we've allowed for a long long time. Because he clearly was at second base, it was a legal play, under the rules.
And if we want to talk about the "unwritten rules" of baseball, that's one of 'em, boys.
So that needs to be written out -- and it's getting worse by the day after all the catcher collisions have been taken out.
Because now you've got a very real case that an entire series and season may be changed on this play.
But don't look at Utley or the Dodgers. He was within the written AND unwritten rule.
And Rob Manfred is probably giggling with glee, thinking: Monday... Citi Field...
