Football (and a bizarre infection scenario) has claimed at least the football career and at least part of a foot of New York Giants tight-end Daniel Fells.
Fells suffered an ankle injury in Week 4, and went in for treatment, with the belief he'd be able to play in this week's game.
He will never play again, and has already lost part of his foot. He may lose it all.
Somehow, in the process of dealing with the ankle injury, Fells was infected with the blood infection MRSA. Amputation is quite probable as the only way to save his life, and he's already lost part of his foot in five surgical procedures to try to eradicate the infection before it kills him.
