Day 565

  • Well, THIS is fresh...  You've never heard of Sheriff Tiraspol.  Hell, you probably haven't heard of the country they are officially from (the tiny European country of Moldova).  And you certainly haven't heard of the unrecognized breakaway region of Moldova, fighting for it's independence, this team is in, Transnistria...
  • Well, as of the end of two matchdays in Group D of the UEFA Champions League, Sheriff did more than expected by knocking off Shakhtar Donetsk.  But that was nothing compared to going to Madrid and KNOCKING OFF REAL MADRID AWAY 2-1!!!  Next?  Inter.
  • To give an idea:  There are four rounds of qualifying matches lesser teams/countries have to go through to even MAKE the final 32 teams for the group stage.  And higher-level teams, etc. are sprinkled in as you go.  Sheriff Tiraspol had to go through all four stages to get in.  And now they lead the group, and five points clear with four matches to go to make the knockout phase.
  • That win alone, according to UEFA, gets Tiraspol 2,800,000 Euros.  Qualification to the knockouts is worth 15,640,000 Euros.
  • According to ESPN, their entire market value is less than $14,000,000.  They've already won 5.6 million Euros (about $6.54 million) just in their two wins.
  • PointsBet Sportsbook had Sheriff 25-1 to win the match!
  • The CFP is trying to save the expanded playoff.  Too late.  NIL took the whole infrastructure out, long before the 2025 changeover.
  • Another big one for Matt Amodio.  Becoming the 3rd man to win thirty games on Jeopardy!, this one was his largest win yet:  $70,400 -- the 4th highest non-James Holzhauer game score.  30 day total:  $1,107,401 -- average win:  $36,913
  • Meaning this week could be big on two ends:  Two more wins at any amount ties him with Holzhauer for second all-time in number of wins.  At the present average, it would also make Amodio the 10th highest winner in American game-show history.
  • He's about #14 right now, at least from what I have researched.
  • #13:  Rahim Oberholtzer (Twenty-One):  $1,120,000
  • #12:  John Carpenter:  $1,125,000 (non-charity)
  • #11:  Michael Haynes (another 2008 Price is Right millionaire):  $1,127,062.
  • #10:  Adam Rose (TPiR):  $1,153,908
