And unlike Bolton Wanderers (League One, saved days from expulsion) and Bury (would've been in League One this year, but expelled for money troubles), this is in the top flight of Liga MX in Mexico.Historic night in Mexico as Veracruz were forced to play despite not being paid for half a year.— J. They let in three goals intentionally in the first eight minutes in protest -- then, a man up for the better part of the last 70 minutes of the match, only got one back in stoppage time at the end for the 3-1 loss.
This has been going on since at least April, when FIFA stripped the team of all it's points in the Clausura league.
The corrupt owner had to pay over $6 million not to get Veracruz relegated from the league at that point, but there's no saving this situation.
This is gonna get ugly. There are still five matches left, and Veracruz is already going to be relegated again.
