The fourth round of seven in group play in New Japan's annual G1 Climax has completed. Top two advance to the quarterfinals:
- Group A: IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA appears to have smooth sailing to the quarters. He has won his first four matches. NOAH visitor Kaito Kiyomiya has 5 points, three back. Gabe Kidd, Chase Owens, and Shota Umino have 4 each.
- And SANADA has already defeated Kiyomaya two nights ago, just two seconds from the time limit. Chase Owens, Ren Narita, and Gabe Kidd are all separating SANADA from a perfect group phase.
- A G1 rarity in this group: No less than three matches in this group have gone the 20 minute time limit.
- Group B: Two-time defending and four-time total champion Kazuchka Okada has a similar smooth sailing. He's 4-0 for 8 points. Will Ospreay has 6. Taichi, KENTA, and YOSHI-HASHI have 4 each.
- Okada has largely feasted on the bottom section of the group, however.
- Group C: David Finlay, EVIL, and Tama Tonga have six points. Shingo Takagi and AEW's New Japan of America STRONG Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston have 4 each, in a wide-open group for the two spots.
- Kingston was actually scheduled for Ring of Honor's Death Before Dishonor main event against rival Claudio Castignoli, but winning the NJPWoA STRONG Openweight Championship gave him a spot in the G1 Climax instead.
- That championship is the top title in the American brance of New Japan Pro Wrestling, but is NOT to be confused with the NJPW United States Championship.
- Group D: Jeff Cobb is 4-0. Zack Sabre Jr. has 6 points. An all-star team and an NJPW STRONG competitor constitute four at 4: Former New Japan World Champions Tetsuya Naito and Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hirooki Goto, and Shane Haste.
