July 15, 2023 News and Notes

  • And global warming is a "myth"...  Make it 11 days in a row past the previous record for the hottest day on Earth.  Peaking on July 6th, scientists are reporting the last week and a half, over the entire planet, appears to be the warmest in at least 100,000 years.
  • Russian Agent Tucker Carlson has turned a Christian Conservative forum into a showcase for Vladimir Putin.  This, the same week that shithead did a nearly 3-hour Twitter interview with international misogynist shithead Andrew Tate.
  • The Phoenix Coyotes fired Alex Galchenyuk today after a slur-filled traffic stop with Arizona police last weekend -- threatened to kill the two officers too.
  • Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic has won the women's Wimbledon title unseeded.  6-4, 6-4 over Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.
  • In another example of the only other purpose for women in "women's sports":  It has now come out that the German edition of Playboy wants German Women's World Cup player Guilia Guinn.  She has refused.
  • The 2023 New Japan Pro Wrestling G1 Climax has started, with the first eight matches of group play.
    • It featured a small-scale upset, as Taichi defeated Will Ospreay to snag two unexpected points.
    • But the bigger rarity is a split of the points between former Young Lions Ren Narita and Shota Umino, who went the full 20 minutes without a fall.
    • The other two groups start tonight, including AEW's Eddie Kingston, who -- before this tournament started -- won his first major singles championship, the New Japan of America STRONG Openweight Championship.
  • In unscripted Japanese (sumo) wrestling:
    • The last undefeated fell in Round 7.
    • Four now share the lead at 6-1:
      • Sekiwake Hoshoryu, on Ozeki Run Watch.
      • Maegashira 1 Nishikigi, suffered his first loss to Kotonowaka
      • Maegashira 7 Tamawashi
      • and Maegashira 9 Hokotufuji
    • Ozeki Kirishima is three losses from kadoban, as he struggles to retain the 8 wins so that there will be no non-kadoban Ozeki in September.
    • Asanoyama is 4-3, gets Sekiwake Daieisho (5-2) in what could be a key match.
    • Wakamotoharu is also 5-2, he gets Kotonowaka.
  • Additional meaningless penalty:  All wins vacated for 2019 and 2020 for Tennessee.
