Day 626

  • Joe Mixon has tested positive for the Bengals this week.
  • Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer has entered league protocols.  The Greek Freak is also out for tonight with an illness, but that one is not COVID.
  • A day after Novak Djokovic was given a vaccine exemption to play in the Australian Open (WHAT????), he's stuck at the border with visa issues.
  • And he's back OUT of the Aussie Open.  They won't let him in the country.  Good!
  • The infamous Wonderlic Test will no longer be used at the NFL Combine.
  • There is also talk that teams who ask inappropriate interview questions at the Combine could lose draft picks.
  • The Buccaneers, at this point -- and probably to prevent him going someplace else -- have not formally cut Antonio Brown.  So it sounds like it's a suspension.
  • At least one Chicago member of the AP will not be voting for Aaron Rodgers for NFL MVP this year, probably due to his anti-vaxx stance.  The NFL has noted it has no say in the selection of voters.
  • Aaron Rodgers has officially called him a "bum" and is asking his vote be taken away.
  • Chelsea plays Tottenham today in the semifinals of the English League Cup -- the Carabao Cup (now sponsored by an energy drink).  The bigger news is that the other semifinal first leg -- Liverpool and Arsenal, has been postponed due to a COVID outbreak in Liverpool.  Eight EPL matches have already been postponed since Boxing Day due to English COVID concerns.
  • The 2021 Grammy Awards have been postponed indefinitely.
  • The 2021 Golden Globes will take place with no TV coverage and no audience.
  • As a result, the NFL is looking into alternate Super Bowl sites if necessary.
  • As of right now, about a month out, the Beijing Winter Olympics are still on...
  • ... but Switzerland's team leader is saying there's a real chance they will be postponed.  I think all it would take is one particular team bowing out -- from a country which could have a very long winter ahead of it!
  • The city of Chicago has cancelled all school for the foreseeable -- after the teachers' union bucked city leadership and voted 3-1 to 4-1 for remote learning again.
