- Bruce Arians conked a player of his upside the head before he committed a conduct penalty during the game last weekend -- and has been fined 50 grand for it. Given the potential for abuse, file this away as a possible motivator if, but only if, Tampa gets jobbed. Doubt it, but...
- Lionel Messi has been left off Argentina's latest qualifier list -- recovering from COVID, hasn't played in nearly a month.
- Possible spot-fixing scenario under investigation by the FA after an Arsenal player got a yellow card in an unnamed match in which a lot of money was wagered (and the spot flagged by betting authorities as a result) that he would. A 2018 FA Cup incident to this effect drew a lesser-team player a six-year ban, according to Sports Illustrated.
- Tom Brady admits that he's a pain in the ass to NFL referees. Oh, son, YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!
- Another Final Jeopardy miss for Schneider...
- But another runaway beforehand, so that's 36 wins now for Amy Schneider (two short of Matt Amodio's total), and $1,181,800.
- However, an average which once stood at $40,000 is now down to $32,828 after a string of $30-40K Final Jeopardy loss swings.
Forward-looking, on that average:
- Schneider now stands 12th on the all-time all-shows list.
- John Carpenter is #11, $68,200 away. That'd be Monday, on current average -- the day she would pass Amodio for number of wins and become second on that table.
- #10 is Amodio -- but, to give you an idea of how the last week and a half has gutted Schneider's average, Schneider now stands, though only two wins short of Amodio, a full $337,801 away now -- meaning it'd be another two weeks (win #46).
- And that's about where archivist Andy Saunders has Schneider's current projection of a streak going.
- #1 on the women's list (Ashlee Register) is just over $600,000 away yet. So that's the better part of another month of regular shows. No word yet on what the syndicated show is doing for the balance of February - the college championship has been expanded and moved to ABC (with Mayim Bialik hosting it) as an Olympic counterprogramming event.
- Of the top 11 game-show winners, only Carpenter, Register, and Twenty-One's David Legler have never, to knowledge, appeared on Jeopardy!. Those three, Amodio, and Schneider are the only five of the top 12 to appear on only one show.
