More 3/11/2020 Coronavirus Updates

  • And my speculation was correct.  March Madness (men's and women's) is not only fanless, but they are looking at moving the regional and Final Four rounds to smaller venues to curb loss.
  • And one of the things which has been leaked from the NBA Board of Governor's Meeting is to check availability of venues in July -- meaning a one-month or so suspension of play is very possible!
  • It appears, as of time of starting this post, the NBA owners are, in fact, leaning on going fanless instead.
  • In fact, that can now be essentially confirmed -- about 4:45 Pacific, the owners and the Board of Governors have effectively decided to continue the season without fans.  The announcement from Commissioner Silver comes tomorrow.
  • A defender for the Juventus soccer team has tested positive.  His entire team is now under 14-day quarantine...  including Cristiano Ronaldo.
  • University of Michigan has cancelled the spring football game -- April 18th.
  • It appears that Italy now quarantining down to just grocery stores and pharmacies.
  • India has apparently decided to quarantine it's billion-plus people from the rest of the world.
  • University of Oregon has cancelled in-person finals for the winter term and all in-person classes for the first three weeks of spring.
  • The Big Ten Conference, even though it has already played two days of it's tournament, will play the remainder of the tournament, as of tomorrow, without fans.
  • The ACC and Big XII have just followed suit, as have the American Athletic Conference and the Big East.  The Big West announced yesterday.   The Pac-12 announced just past 6 PM Pacific.  SiriusXM notes the SEC has finally joined in.
  • It appears, by my quick view, the Atlantic 10 is the lone remaining holdouts.
  • If you need to see how serious this situation is, look at the scenes from one of the Champions' League games today:
  • It appears there may even be an NBA game STOPPED tonight.  Literally moments from the tipoff of Oklahoma City vs. Utah, Oklahoma City's head of medical staff grabbed the officials and told them something, and the teams have been sent to the locker rooms.  Nothing is confirmed yet, but ESPN NBA writer Royce Young, who broke the story, is now under the assumption the game is off for tonight.
  • And he is right.  Minutes later, the game was called off.  There is some concern that the Utah Jazz have several ill players, and they can't figure out why.
  • In an Oval Office address, President Trump announces a travel ban between the United States and the countries of the European Union, effective Friday at noon Eastern.  Appears to be at least 30 days.
  • 6:30 PM:  No one from the Thunder or Jazz is allowed to leave Cheapaseake Arena.  Both teams of the postponed NBA game and their locker rooms are now under quarantine!!!  I think we just went from "fanless" to probably "cancelled".
