3/8/20 Coronavirus update

  • The coronavirus (and a Saudi oil-war economic move) have created a no-bid lock limit down on the Wall Street futures markets (-5%) tonight, and international markets are 5-6% down themselves.
  • If the S&P 500 hits -7% after open at 6:30 AM PDT tomorrow, we hit circuit-breaker and who knows?
  • The Indian Wells BNP Paribas tennis tournaments have been cancelled.
  • The NCAA is still insisting March Madness will be played, and with fans.  We'll see what they're saying in seven days, which would be Selection Sunday.  First Four is in nine days, First Round in eleven.  And that, given present reality, is quite an eternity with at least two member schools completely shut down for in-person classes for the duration.
  • Saudi Arabia now has no fans at sporting events.
  • Japan's top rugby league will decide tomorrow whether to postpone/cancel a third round of matches.
  • At least two members of Congress are now under self-quarantine after possibly contracting it.  One is former Presidential candidate Ted Cruz.
