Week 5 Score Update: Well, They're Getting Back To Normal Now

Week 5 per game:  47.07
5 week per game average:  46.37 -- now only about a third of a point below last year's year-end.
  • Finally got the Monday nighter to be at least close in the 4th quarter for a while.  Still, only five such national prime-time games in five weeks (16 games).
  • This week, only three games were non-competitive into the 4th quarter (and two of them were prime-time, the third was the Jets vs. Chargers).  Four games were decided in the last two minutes and overtime, with two overtime games (NO over Tampa with a touchdown, Dallas over Houston with a field goal) and two others (Buffalo over Detroit with a 58-yard field goal at :04, after Detroit misses a 50-yarder in the last minute (for which Detroit, today, cut their kicker!!) and Cleveland over Tennessee with a touchdown at 1:09).
  • That makes thirteen total games in the five weeks so decided.  63.1% now for the games within 8 points at some point in the final period, with 40.79% decided by 8 or less.  Still well below last season (68 and 48, respectively).
  • Over was 7-8, 39-47 for the season.  If you take partial pushes, over was 7-7-1 for the week, 34-46-6 for the season.
  • Home teams 11-4 for the week, 49-26 for the year.
  • Home teams were only called for more penalties in the game 4 times out of 15, with one tie.  30 out of 75 for the year.
  • Home teams about 5.5 penalties a game.  (82 total in 15 games) Visitors got 123 penalties in the 15 games, about 8.2.  Think there was a home advantage this week?  NAH!!!
  • The teams were deadlocked on record on who had more penalties (7-7-1, team with more penalties in the game is now 34-37-5)
  • Also deadlocked on Points of Emphasis:  5-5-5.  Season, team with more PoE penalties is 31-28-17.
