April 29, 2023 News and Notes

  • We have officially passed the halfway point of the Relay For Life on Second Life Fantasy Faire for the American Cancer Society.  The official nine-day donation total now stands at a little over $43,500.
  • After winning game #5 Monday, the Oakland A's have gone on a losing streak.  The team has also ordered the removal of all anti-owner signs from the stadium.  The team now stands at 5-22.
    • That is on pace, at the 1/6 mark of the season, for 30-132.  Ten games worse than the record set by the Mets six decades ago.
    • Official attendance Friday night against the Reds:  6,423.
    • The last middle-week series in Oakland was against the Cubs, and the Thursday game of that (April 19), with probably over half the crowd Cubs fans, could only draw just over 12,000.
    • Saturday:  Now 5-23.  3-2 win for the Reds.  Attendance:  7,052.
  • Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies were sent off from the NBA Playoffs last night.  Lakers by 40 to win the series 4-2.
  • And an unexpected double-digit home loss by the Warriors sets up a Game 7 in that series in Sacramento.
  • The NBA champion, as the champion of any league, represents the league in excellence for the next year.  If you don't think certain dials are twisted to ensure "certain teams" do NOT win the championship (looking at you, Ja Morant and Warriors...)...
  • Desjaun Johnson, a defensive end from the University of Toledo, has won the honor this year of being Mr. Irrelevant -- the last player drafted in the NFL Draft, compensatory pick of the LA Rams.
