One Case Where China Gets It (Almost) Right

The Chinese Basketball Association ain't having that tanking crap.

To try to manipulate a suspension situation in the Chinese playoffs (to former NBA flop Eric Bledsoe), the Shanghai Sharks decided to throw Game 2 of their three-game first-round series.  Bledsoe had been banned four playoff games, so the Sharks tried to throw Game 2 to the Jiangsu Dragons.

In return, the Dragons threw Game 3 to ensure the Sharks advanced.

The league correctly identified both incidents as match-fixing, and...
  • Threw the Sharks coach out of the league for five years.
  • The GM of the Sharks for three.
  • Threw the Dragons coach out for three.
  • Each team was fired five million yuan.
  • The Sharks were thrown out of the playoffs.
    • The Shenzen Leopards have been advanced to the semifinals via forfeit.
  • And the entire season is wiped out for both teams.
Not quite enough:  DISSOLVE BOTH FRANCHISES.
