April 27, 2023 News and Notes

  • I guess Aaron Rodgers is now COVIDIOT-8.  The Jets retired 12 for Broadway Joe -- and though Namath would've allowed it, Rodgers says he will wear #8.
  • Disney has sued the state of Florida and Ron DeSantis for the governor's campaigns against the company.
  • Zooey Zephyr, the transgender representative in the Montana House, has been expelled from the chamber by a party-line vote for the remainder of the session.
  • Today is Day 8 of the 2023 Fantasy Faire for Second Life, raising money for the American Cancer Society.
    • Through 6 days, the website reports slightly over $34,150 -- about a third of what it raised last year for the entire event.
      • This total includes over $1,200 raised in a Children of Stories RP dance event Tuesday, DJ'ed by Nancy Daehlie.
      • There is an, at present, unconfirmed report of a second Daehile-DJed RP event forthcoming...  Stay tuned!
    • This pushes the 15-year total for the Fairelanders to over $665,000.
  • And the T-Wolves playoff run ended as it began:  Anthony Edwards has been cited for assault after swinging a chair and hitting two female stadium employees.  His first court date is in June for the misdemeanor.
  • The NBA and the players' union approved a new CBA to prevent a league opt-out this summer.  Six years -- the biggest changes meant to hamper superteams like the Warriors.
  • At the sources level, but it appears that Jacksonville's Cam Robinson will be suspended for a PED policy violation.  The report does not, however, state how many games Robinson will have to sit.
  • And another regular-season champion falls:  The Milwaukee Bucks are eliminated, four games to one!, by the Miami Heat.
  • The television definition of "for better or for worse":  We lost Jerry Springer today -- and if I need to explain to anyone the statement I made accompanying that, you either aren't American (and that's no offense -- I mean that literally!) or you've been living under a rock.  He was 79.
  • Except that a lot of his early work -- and some of his later work -- was NOT the classic format which featured every jilted lover in rural America (or so it seemed -- or actors representing same!) in almost every conceivable combination.
  • Because of anti-transgender laws and the backlash Dwayne Wade has suffered, Wade has moved his family out of the state of Florida.
  • One of the horses entered in the Kentucky Derby for a week from Saturday has been put down after suffering an injury at Churchill Downs.
  • The Atlanta Braves have been ordered by MLB to stop the oversized Homer Hat celebration.
    • By the official hat provider of the league.
  • We have just passed the one week mark of Fantasy Faire on Second Life -- just over $37,600 has been raised as of 12 noon Pacific Thursday -- precisely one week after the Faire's beginning.
