We're now a month in as of Friday, and it doesn't look good in any respect. (Part One)

This will probably be an ongoing blog post of several thoughts I have, but they all kind of dovetail into the same thing:

We're a month into this, and I think it's becoming clearer by the passing moment we are heading into the teeth of a biblical tragedy.
  • I'll start with a Seton Hall poll which indicates you can pretty much forget about any games with fans in 2020 at all, and that about half of the respondents believe there will be no sports at all in 2020.  (ESPN)
762 respondents in the poll.  72% will not attend games anymore without a vaccine.

That's basically at least through Opening Day 2021 out.

Though about the same number (actually 76%) would watch games without fans and be as enthusiastic, 46% believe there will be no sports at all for the rest of the calendar year.
  • And that's nothing compared to what a Santa Clara official said.

First, I think we've already lost NASCAR (and Indy).  Any future "racing league" in this country WILL be virtual-only.

I think neck and neck for next to go (and, if that 46% and the officials in Santa Clara are right, this will happen) are the PGA Tour and the NHL.  You could have the latter survive as a Canadian institution, but the biggest problem here is one of seasonality.  If this thing becomes a recurring problem (as many expect it will), your best hope for a restart is definitely tied into a vaccine, and that's 12-18 months -- so are we talking Opening Day 2021, or the start of the 2021-2022 NFL season?

And then how the Hell do you get that far without losing the nation?  I think you're going to have a very difficult time (and this is even WITH a SECOND $1,200 subsidy for EVERYBODY like the one going out next week) getting past about June, July 4th at the abject latest -- and I believe there are a significant number of losers in this country (as I will go into in Part 2 later Friday) who are openly machinating a riot situation, partially by their refusal to abide by the social distancing and partially because they're polishing their guns for the elimination of whatever "others" end up in their crosshairs.

I believe we are heading, rapidly, to the point where tens of millions get killed in a cascading series of starvations, riots, and loss of the grid.  Basically, I believe we do get, by July 4, one of the three All-Stop Conditions I've been talking about:
  • Power and or Internet Down permanently
  • Lone Wolves/Small groups set it off and it cascades.
  • Loss of the Supply Lines
I get that people want to believe we're going to get some of this back, but it may have to come back far sooner than anyone expects or we lose it all long before some of these predictions.  I said to Olbermann a month ago that I felt we were going 12-18 months without.

Question:  What survives that long and how?  And that's sports leagues, sports networks, and the country, society, and economy at large...
