The Rio Farce, Morning Day 6: Shots Fired...

Three very disturbing situations noted by Inside the Games:
  • The gunfire which nearly felled a New Zealand equestrian official resulted in an arrest in the favela community -- the problem is that arrest required additional gunfire which ended up with one bullet being found in the stables.
  • And now word of an attack on three Brazilian military police very near the Olympic Stadium -- where track and field begins tomorrow.
  • The two African boxers accused of sexual assault have both been released, but the legal process is still ongoing.  However, the Namibian is cleared to compete under the process of innocence until proven guilt.
Also:
  • IOC vice-president John Coates told the BBC today that Rio has provided one of the most difficult Games ever, as the economic and political collapse in Brazil has been felt.  Seven years ago, when Rio was awarded the Games, Brazil was in far better economic position than it is now, Coates inferring that if the vote had taken place closer to the Games, another city would've been picked.
And as continuing evidence to that fact:
  • The algae problem has now spread to the water polo venue.  Though not as pronounced as the diving pool, I'm watching (as I'm preparing to check out and head home from Vegas) Spain and Hungary -- and the water has a definite green tint in it!!
And Deadspin gets in the act with this disturbing report from Canada:
  •  Byron McDonald is probably going home.  The swimming analyst, due to his position as the swimming coach of the University of Toronto, had this to say about the Chinese swimmer in the 4x200m freestyle, in which Canada took bronze, after a performance by the Chinese swimmer described thusly by McDonald:  "Too excited.  Went out like stink, died like a pig."
