The COVIDLympics, Day Ten

  • It appears as if the Belarussian sprinter is reporting that she is, currently, "safe".  Probably meaning she's been placed into protective custody in Japan.  She is still petitioning the IOC for aid in keeping it that way.
  • Unfortunately, we have lost an equestrian horse, which came up lame during the competition and had to be put down.
  • We have our first protest on the podiums:  US shotputter Raven Saunders finished second in the event last night, then threw up the "X" on the podium.  Saunders is Black, female, lesbian, and has had depression problems -- and threw the "X" to speak for communities who can't speak for themselves.  The IOC is investigating for possible sanctions, in communication with the USOC and World Athletics.  It appears Saunders is almost daring the three sanctioning bodies to take the medal away.
  • Aw Hell, if I can embed Streamable, I gotta share this one!!!  This was the discussion between the official and the two high-jumpers who were absolutely tied at 2.37m, all three misses at 2.40m, and no misses previous.  The official advises they can either jump it off or share the gold.  The reaction answers the official's question and says it ALL!!!!

  • What a moment...
  • An Olympics full of upsets.  Few might be larger, though, than India's 1-0 field hockey quarterfinal elimination of women's #1 Australia.
