Suspension Blotter (MLB Version): One of the largest suspension series in a long time...

Well, that Reds-Pirates fracas from this week made the league offices busy, with one of the largest discipline situations in a long time for on-field stuff in Major League Baseball:
  • Pittsburgh Pirates:  Keone Kela:  10 games for trying to bean one of the Reds in the seventh and chirping for his role in the fight in the ninth.
  • Cincinnati Reds:  Amir Garrett:  8 for starting the fight.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates:  Jose Osuna:  5 for his actions in the fight.
  • Cincinnati Reds:  Jared Hughes:  3 for trying to bean one of the Pirates in the ninth.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates:  Kyle Crick:  3 for his actions in the fight.
  • Cleveland Indians (yes, and you should've expected this!):  Yasiel Puig:  3 for his actions in the fight.
  • Both managers were suspended:  Cincinnati Reds:  David Bell:  6 for a variety of offenses, including what damn well should've been a forfeiture offense -- he was already ejected when he came on the field during the fight!
  • Additionally and EDIT TO ADD:  Bell's suspension is also for the fact he has already been ejected 8 times this season.  The MLB record is 11, and the 8 is the most ejections since Bobby Cox had 10 in 2007.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates:  Clint Hurdle:  2 for failure to control and for a number of pitches thrown at one of the Reds this season.
  • Three other active players and a number of Injured List players were fined for their roles in the fracas.
WHY THE HELL WAS THIS GAME CONTINUED?

Not only because of the fight, not only because of numerous incidents between these teams this year, but Bell returns to the field after being tossed??

Look, there's been a strong increase in the number of intentional pitches getting up around the head here.  Let's hope this is a message that this shit stops now.
