- Hat-tip to my anonymous friend, and from the African-American section The Root: LeRon McClain is at the end of his rope.
He posted a plea for help on his Twitter account for help from an NFL who refuses to pay up to help him with concussion and God knows what else he did to his head as a running back since high school.
He played in the NFL seven years, is 34, been out of the league five years, and was at least charged with trafficking synthetic marijuana. (This is meant as no offense: He probably had that as pain management!)
- And then Deadspin has a missive from the wife of a former NFLer, stating "My Husband is Dying Every Day".
Article is by Debra Fellows, whose husband Ron was in the NFL eight years, and now, at 61, has Alzheimer's and is fading fast.
Look, people: One of the reasons that I post the fines and suspensions is that nothing seems to get the message across that football probably needs to be abolished. Football is the only sport I know of outside the "combat sports" in which the aim of the contest is to maim the opponent.
No amount of fines are stopping these people from killing each other for that Super Bowl touchdown and the Lombardi -- or the CFP National Championship trophy -- or a state high-school championship -- or the droit du seigneur on the cheerleading squad!
