June 11, 2023 News and Notes

  • Dammit, Part One:  League of Legends will have it's LCS going forward -- an agreement was reached to allow the 2023 Summer Split to begin next week.
  • Dammit, Part Two:  The XFL V.3 lost $80 million in Year One.  The belief is that it could be profitable by Year Five. (2027)
  • Dammit, Part Three:  Boris Johnson has quit British politics.  It is apparent that he, and a number of Tory allies (two others have also quit) violated COVID rules with private parties during the teeth of the pandemic.
  • The WNBA has been forced to stiffen security due to continued threats against their players after the social-media pig who confronted Britney Griner in Dallas Saturday.
  • With no feasible competition, the UFC's Amanda Nunes retires after a main-event rout at UFC 289.  So dominant, even 50-43 (two 10-8 rounds) was generous to her challenger.
  • Novak Djokovic has won his third French Open, and, more importantly, has won a record 23rd Grand Slam title.  Defeated Casper Ruud in the final 7-6, 6-3. 7-5.
  • Seven miles of Interstate 95 will be closed for the foreseeable future.  A vehicle fire and explosion has destroyed an overpass bridge in Philadelphia.  Oh shit... Just got one look at the map on that bad boy.
  • We would like to congratulate the Las Vegas Golden Knights on the 2022-23 Stanley Cup.  The chaos at the end of Game 4, a 3-2 win for Vegas in Florida to take a 3-1 lead, should (by my understanding of the rules) get two Florida Panthers suspended and the team heavily fined.
    • After a massive save at the buzzer, not only did the Panthers appear to start a line brawl after the game, but fans started throwing things on the ice!
