The announcement came down today. Four more players banned for gambling.
Scratch the Colts from any meaningful surge this season. Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry are banned for life. (Indefinite suspension, at least one year)
Both players were immediately fired by the Colts.
Demetrius Taylor can be added to the list from the Detroit Lions. Now a free agent, he's gone at least a year. That brings the number of Lions players banned for a large-scale gambling ring to at least five.
Nicholas Petit-Frere of the Titans is gone for the first six games of the season -- his gambling was not on the NFL. He is banned because of the zero-tolerance for any gambling at team facilities, regardless of sport.
Rodgers started nine games last year and played in all but two, as I stated in a previous blog post.
Berry was seen as a competitor for a roster spot in the offensive line -- was practice squad for the Jaguars last year.
Petit-Frere was the starting left guard for the Titans last year. He played in about 84% of offensive snaps. Keep in mind, however, the sanction for Petit-Frere is because all sports gambling is banned on NFL properties, so he gets the six-game sanction.
So that's the Colts, Lions, Cardinals, and Titans off the list.
EDIT TO ADD 3 PM PDT: Cam Robinson of the Jaguars will sit the first four games of this season for PEDs.
