Blake Griffin Better Talk Fast...

Because this situation which has resulted in a broken hand for Blake Griffin might land him in prison, and, unless there's something we don't know, should get him thrown out of the NBA, quite probably for life.

The story appears to be that Blake Griffin of the Clippers beat the shit out of an equipment manager for the team, and, in the process, injured his hand.  He's out four to six weeks.

Multiple punches after an argument at a restaurant, etc.

This is far more serious than anything I think people are taking into account here.

Unless there is evidence that the manager actually started this situation, Griffin's done with the Clippers.  The only question after that is, how long after is he done?

This season plus one year?
This season plus two years?
Life ban??

This has all the makings of a situation which can see Blake Griffin expelled from the National Basketball Association - and, lacking any mitigating factors, this is exactly what should happen.

He easily could be up for felonies, up to and including (because of his status as a pro athlete) assault with a deadly weapon.  He has (barring mitigating factors) almost certainly cost the Clippers hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in a proposed lawsuit or settlement.  He has cost the Clippers his services through his injury, and has shown a complete lack of duty of loyalty to both the employees of his team and the NBA itself.

This is a place where Adam Silver can make a great distinction between his era and that of David Stern.  Especially in the day and age of out-of-control athletes, it is time for someone in power to take a stand.

The minimum this former sports fan will accept is the rest of this season and playoffs plus all of next year too.  A life ban is the preferred situation, because of the many facets which continue to damage the NBA because of incidents like this.
